‪Excellent walking country‬
سبتمبر 2021
‪In the right weather this is excellent walking country with extensive views in all directions. The route is along the top of the escarpment is clear and easy to follow.

Parking (National Trust) is limited and will fill up at busy times. The road up from Ditchling is steep with bends which require care. The turn into the car park is very sharp and visibility when leaving is limited. No toilet facilities.‬

‪Wow!‬
أغسطس 2021
‪Day two of our mini break in West Sussex and we took a trip to across the South Downs. The scenery here showed England at some of its best.

Leaving the small village of Littleworth where we had stayed the night before we drove south through a succession of leafy suburbs before encountering the A23 and then onto the A27. This was not what we wanted to see, we wanted views of the South Downs. We saw a sign for this beacon from the A27 and we joined Ditchling Road just west of Stanmer. This took us into the heart of the South Downs and the scenery was what we wanted to see; rolling hills and very few buildings. It wasn’t great weather, but it wasn’t raining, so we pushed on along Ditchling Road for just under 2.5 miles to get to this National Trust beacon site.

Despite the signage the entrance to the Ditchling Beacon site came too suddenly upon us and we missed it! So, that took us down a zig-zag road dropping probably 200 metres in just under a mile before we could turn around and drive back-up again. The ascent was a lot slower because cyclists see this hill as a challenge, and it is dangerous to overtake them on several sections of the hill. We did not miss the entrance on this return and drove into a circular car park, parked and then climbed up a small bank to be presented with stunning 180 degree view of the South Downs approximately centred on Lewes. It was a “Wow!” moment.

It is possible to take a walk across the escarpment hearing south from the car park, this is part of the South Downs Way. Time constraints did unfortunately mean we were unable to walk along any of South Downs Way which also leads north to the summit about 100 metres away. The summit apparently offers a 360 degree view from its 248 metre height. Our West Sussex trip was mainly to visit family and we have resolved to return to the area next year and this attraction will be high on our list of places to revisit. Being National Trust members we were aware that we passed many attractions in driving around West Sussex, and a much longer stay is already in the discussion and exploration stage.‬

‪Great place to walk to from Brighton, with a horse-box coffee bar at jack & jill windmills. Well worth the effort with spectacular views over the South Downs and Brighton FC ground ‬

‪Great place for dog walking‬
مايو 2021
‪Not far out of the picturesque village of Ditchling is Ditchling Beacon on the South Downs Way. It is signposted as you leave the village on South Street and there is a small car park when you get there. There is a charge for the car park but free if you are a National Trust member. The views are amazing and you can walk for miles as there are quite a few different paths. How long you want to spend here is up to you. Great place for dog walking.‬

‪We walked up to the Beacon from Ditchling but if you're not up for that there is a carpark at the top. It's worth going for the view and the fresh air!‬

‪Stunning views up here over Sussex. A lovely walk from here to Devil's Dyke or go the other way to Lewes. Parking is free if you are a National Trust member.‬

‪Free parking. Stunning views.‬

‪We go here all the time. The car park is free. There are loads of walks up to the car park if you fancy the hill climb or along the top. I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s super windy! Depending on how much time you have you could walk for 30 minutes or hours. ‬

‪Stunning views & excellent walks‬
أكتوبر 2020
‪Went for a walk with a friend this morning, we were lucky & found a parking space in the small carpark & scanned our National Trust card which enabled us to have free parking. It was a very windy day with scattered showers, but the views across the south downs in both directions were stunning nevertheless. After our walk we drove to Ditchling for hot refreshments in a lovely old fashioned tearoom.‬

‪Stunning views from the top of Ditchling Beacon, very windy when we visited. I should imagine the small car park fills up very quickly during holidays periods. Definitely worth a trip.‬

‪Walked to the Beacon from Pyecombe ‬
زوجان • سبتمبر 2020
‪Now you will probably be aware that there is a Carpark on the top so you can drive to the top, park and then walk. However those who have done it will tell you that the best way of experiencing the height of this part of the South Downs is to walk or cycle to the top. I would recommend walking up from Pyecombe. The road up from Ditchling or Hollingbury is quite narrow and you will have difficulty overtaking the cyclists so it could be a frustrating drive anyway. The views South to the sea or North across the Weald are excellent and away from the Carpark there is plenty of room for all to enjoy. Lots of butterflies in late summer !
