A wonderful bookshop - the old-fashioned type. A mixture of boutiques, none of them cheap! Very nice setting, next to the river.

Matakana Village is located approximately 1 hour north of Auckland. We were staying at Matakana Estate Lodge and visited the village numerous times. The village is tiny but houses some lovely boutique shops, restaurants and the local pub. On the weekends the farmers market is the happening place.

Some beautiful boutique shops. Great time of year to come with the sales on. Nice eateries. Parking is not always the best. For bargin hunters there is also a great op shop.

It’s easy to miss but opposite the 4 square is a deep dip with very limited parking. Pretty shops are scattered around the outside of the car park with lovely water features in several forms (including very tame eels).
Come down on a Saturday when the farmers Market provides artisanal wares, local artists fill the air with sweet songs and interesting bites will fill your belly.
The parking here is pitiful with no planning and rising from the car park is potentially hazardous with pedestrians and poor vision. Attempt to park elsewhere.

Cute little village. You must stop if passing. Some nice shops and a few restaurants/cafes. Parking can be a bit hard to find, but then again just park a bit further away and have a nice stroll.

We come out on a Friday during the school holidays and it was packed. Some good shops to look around and a few eateries. I was told the Farmers Market in the weekend is very popular.

We stopped by for lunch after going to the Scultureum. Parking wasn't too bad but the markets weren't going on. We grabbed a few things from the Ringawera bakery and ate by the river in the market area.
The village also has a few shops and restaurants around. We stopped by honest chocolate to get something sweet as well as Ramas on the roadside to get some fresh fruit ice cream. It was a small village but had lots to see and eat. It is a nice place to stop by to relax for a bit.

The village is open everyday and the Farmers Market on Saturdays only. It's a good day out for family with children or hanging out with friends.

We travelled from the South Island and just loved Matakana. Super farmers market and some stunning boutique shops and nice eateries. Will definitely return

Hi Lynette.
No you wont be able to. I was in Matakana and Goat Island Christmas 2017. Even the larger grocer stores in Auckland are not open on Xmas Day so make sure you are well and truly stocked for both the 25th and 26th Dec.
If you are staying in NZ longer also keep this in mind for both the 1st and 2nd Jan.
Some petrol stations are open and MacDonalds was open in Warkworth.
Have a great time. Its truly a beautiful place. And Goat Island is packed on Christmas day in case your thinking of visiting. Get there early.

Nobody has mentioned the cinema. They have shows on in the various theatres/screenings about 4 or 5 all showing different films at different screening times, the seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in you can get a glass of wine to drink while watching the film or Tea/coffee if you prefer and there is a Senior citizens discount
