We went in on a Saturday afternoon and many of the local clientele were there. We were made to feel very welcome by staff and regulars alike. I frequent a local village pub in the village where I live and the similarities are striking. A home from home for me. Beer choice is great (and kept well) and the prices are fine.
One tip - never cheer a goal against Aston Villa (Licensee is a Villa fan). Again taken in good spirit with humour.

Wow! What an amazing local pub with such a lovely atmosphere and ambiance!! Even just walking up to the pub you could hear the laughter and everyone having a great time!! The bar tender was extremely friendly and explained all the different types of ales on tap and made some great recommendations! The prices were great and we had such a lovely night and experience while on holiday in the area!

Always rated The Carter’s Rest as being one of the great pubs in the village It always has a really great selection of guest beers. The new landlord and landlady are extremely friendly and working hard to restore the pub to its former glory. It is early days, but I am optimistic that they will succeed.

First visit after new landlord.
Beer was good. Not as much choice as before but still nice selection and well looked after.
But don’t put your glass on the table or you will never pick it up again. Tried 3 tables and they were all consistently sticky to the point where I used a beer mat for my elbow.

As the pub had reopened with new Landlords after it has been closed for a few months we thought we would have a revisit to see how it was going. Not so many real ales now only about six, maybe in the near future the total will go up. The new Landlords are friendly enough, just settling in. We will have to see how it is in the future.

Freindly pub with good beer usually a lot of guest beers to choose from.

Not been here in the evening for five years. Refurbished recently and looks cosy. Eight real ales on and all kept quite well. No food so crisps before moving to our eating place.

This place used to be a must visit for real ale fans. So I was concerned when a major brewing chain bought it. Concerns unfounded! Place has been spruced up and retains a passion for great beer and a wide selection of it. Great atmosphere and full of friendly locals. It doesn’t major on food but the village has other pubs that do.

What a find! Loved this place, Loved the ales there were so many of them and very well kept it was like ale heaven!! Great pub really friendly,will definitely be back when in the area.

We went on the 26 th August, the first day it re opened following a refurb. Pub looks slick and has a great atmosphere. At least 12 real ales. Friendly locals, especially Merv! Pleasant stay in Wiltshire from Devon
