As a member of the HHA the house is required to open to the public in order to fulfill its obligation from the HMRC. The Hall opens on weekdays in June and on some bank holidays. The guided tour is confined to the ground floor and visitors are given freedom to explore the grounds. The reception rooms are distinctive with fascinating features. The guide was very friendly and helpful and the structure was interesting. Tours are only at 2 pm and 3:30 pm. The short woodland walk is worthwhile and there are amazing vistas. Beware SatNavs as they direct you to the A5; Google is not much better. The entrance to the mile long drive is on the road to Uffingham just off the B4380 at Acham; just before the entrance to Attingham Park.

This hall has been owned by the same family for many years and is open to the public on certain days (see local publications). It is a beautiful English country house and was used in the filming of "Gone to Earth" in 1949 starring Jennifer Jones. Well worth a visit and meeting the welcoming family in residence.

My wife and I had rejoined HHA (£77.00...visited 25 properties last year) again this year and was able to visit Longner Hall on Bank Holiday Monday and take the 2.00 tour (approx 1 hour) by Jan that was interesting and informative. Having entered the hall and informed about the building (having still owned by the Burton Family since the 14 century, the house was rebuilt in 1803 by John N ash as he was working on nearby Attingham Park (NT). Then the house was extended and altered in 1838 by the architect Edward Haycock for Robert Burton a wealthy banker and Mayor of Shrewsbury), we were the taken around the three reception rooms off the hall and around the conservatory.
We had problem with our sat nav as it kept trying to take us from off the main A5 and back again....so the best is to follow the B4380 to Atcham and then turn into Uffingham Road and the entrance for the drive of the estate is a 1/4 mile on the left

Visited the gardens on Sunday 28 May as it was open as part of the NGS open garden programme. A surprising approach almost alongside the gates to Attingham Park taking you through a landscaped approach. Parked in front of the Ha-Ha and had a lovely walk in the extensive gardens next to the house. The view back towards Atcham and the Wrekin from the hedge walk was lovely. It seems as if a lot of time and effort is being spent in recovering the gardens back to a previous splendid standard. The formal walked kitchen gardens looks well preserved and well maintained with a variety of flowers and vegetables planted plus fruit trees trained up some walls. We had a nice tea and cream scones part way round seated under the trees with pleasant service. Our final stage was a pleasant 'Wild woodland walk' which again was a nice finishing touch to the day.

This is a gem well tucked away in the Shropshire countryside near Atcham. Not to be confused with Longnor Hall, Longnor, Shropshire. It is a Grade 1 listed building & has been owned by the Burton family since medieval times. They belong to the Historic Houses Association, so entrance is free to members & friends.
The gardens in May are beautiful as the azaleas & rhododendrons are in full bloom. The walled garden is well organised & full of rhubarb, black currant bushes, raspberry canes as well as figs and meadow planting.
The woodland walk is worthwhile at this time of year.At the end of the walk is the tomb of Edward Burton (d.1558). He was refused burial at St Chad's in Shrewsbury because of his Prostestant faith!
The house is now open weekdays from May 30th - July 1st. Tours at 2pm & 3.30pm.

Longner Hall is a family house open during the summer, which can be visited by guided tour. It is a superb small Hall designed by John Nash in 1803, set within a landscape designed by Humphrey Repton. Key features include a dramatic entrance hall, with amazing staircase and stained glass windows, and the three major ground floor reception rooms off the hall. All the rooms are very distinctive in their own way. An excellent guide took us around in a very relaxed manner, and was more than willing to answer questions. Pleasant grounds - don't miss the table tomb of a previous owner situated in the front lawn, after he was refused burial in a Church. He was a strong Protestant in the time of the Catholic Queen Mary!!
