If you come to Hiroshima, this is a shrine that you should definitely visit.
The history and so on are probably in the other people's reviews, so I'll omit them.
I think it's a great experience to see another world beyond the Seto Inland Sea by ferry.

Okay okay, it is one of the most famous of photos of Japan. It is a nice view when the tide is in. Hard to get a good photo when the tide is out. Get photos from the beach side. Do not waste your time waiting in line for hours to take the photos from the front. Not worth the hype. A cool place to visit.

It is a place where you can feel the faith in nature that Japan is proud of, as well as encounter traditions that are both clean and dignified. I think the appearance of the torii will be completely different when you visit, whether at low tide or high tide. I went there around 3 p.m., but I think the early morning hours are recommended.
The long approach that appears after you pay your respects to the shrine is very enjoyable and makes you stop by various shops. The second and subsequent cups of Gin Lemon, made with the famous lemon, were discounted, and I drank many of them. The snack is still grilled oysters.

This is a tourist attraction of the highest rank. If it's anything special, I don't know. But it's a beard to see. We arrived early, so we saw it both by river and ebbe.

A sacred monument for the Japanese who depending on the tide is found in the water most hours of the day. It is not something special architecturally but for some reason it is a great tourist attraction

Definitely part of a Hiroshima visit! We hadn’t really paid much attention to the tides before and I have to say that I can’t quite understand the enthusiasm for the sight at low tide. Just in time for the great light just before sunset, however, the water also rose again, so that we could still take very nice pictures. The sight of the Torii being washed by the water is truly enchanting.
I had read before that you could also watch the sunset from here. This was not true at least in mid-October, the sun is setting far too far to the side behind the mountains. As I said, this angle was perfect for photos of the Torii.

Wow amazing site ⛩️. The deer 🦌 here are so friendly but they may try to eat your map 🗺.... It is easy to take the tram and then ferry ⛴ over to the island from Hiroshima. If you are lucky 🍀 you can get a photo of the shrine and the deer together (with no other tourists in). The temple is also worth a visit and on the island there is a cable car 🚠 so there is plenty to do for a nice day trip. Definitely recommend as I think it is worth the hype.

A must!! And of course a lot of tourists. If you do it on your own, plan to come at times away from tourist groups

Loved it, I highly recommend going. It's a great activity to do with the family - my, at the time, 13-month-old, had a blast. During low tide, you can walk out to the Torii gate, during high tide, the shrine gives the feeling almost as if it were floating on the water.

We visited Miyajima Island during the later afternoon. Arrived by fast ferry offered by the Hiiroshima World Heritage Sea Route. Where we departed from the bridge, near the Atomic Dome site, directly to Miyajima port in 40-45 minutes.
After a short waterfront walk, we arrived at the Iconic Itsukushima Shrine Torii Gate. Unfortunately it was low tide and the gate was not floating in the Seto Island Sea. So we walked around the Shrine and crossed the sand for some stunning pics.
If you haven't already surmised, it is HUGE! The colour intense. An ICONIC structure! As we didn't arrive by JR Ferry, we did not capture the images from the Sea with the Shrine behind it. Unfortunately we were time pressed
Would we return...yes definitely! Miyajima Island was a highlight of our cross county Japan trip.

I so on a website that the. Torii would be "wrapped" and under construction starting this month. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks

Der Torii Shrine im Wasser bei Flut, oder im Slick bei Ebbe ist immer eine Reise wert. Wenn Bilder über Japan gezeigt werden, ist der Torii Shrine ein beliebtes Objekt.
