A group of us visited the church on Saturday 7th March, 2020. We were met by a most enthusiastic member of the church who gave us a very stimulating talk on the church.
The most striking feature of the church is the amazing, hammer beam roof. It is carved with flying angels and important biblical figures.
The other feature of the church is the fascinating story of Saint Wendreda herself, an Anglo Saxon princess, who was incidentally responsible for the conversion of King Canute to Christianity.

Large church set away from March’s town centre, to the south, dedicated to the Anglo-Saxon princess of the same name. Locked at the time of my visit - as it usually is according to various websites - but it proudly sits on a sizeable plot, with a tall steeple and, according to the Church information, almost three-thousand fleur-de-lys. Pity about it not being open to visitors at all times - the interior is said to be terrific.

For anyone who is interested in church architecture, or who just enjoys the atmosphere of a rural church, St Wendreda's is a wonderful place to visit. The carved angel roof is its special feature - admired by Betjeman and Pevsner, it is a magnificent (and, as far as I know, unique) sight. The outer wall of the church is also worth looking at - there are some great gargoyles!
The church is not left open, but phone numbers are supplied on a notice at the door, and when we turned up, someone arrived very promptly to let us in and left us to wander around the church at our leisure.

A church so well worth visiting that it is becoming very well known. You used to have to fetch a key from the local pub in order to get inside. Now it is easier to find access. However, even the outside is so beautiful you should try to see it. March is a good market town to visit and have a shop around and lunch too.

If you like old English churches, as we do, then this one's worth visiting. Aside from a quite attractively carved 'angel' roof, I wouldn't say it was particularly remarkable. Apparently John Betjeman, poet and church-nut, said it 'was worth cycling 40 miles into gale force headwinds' to see (or something like that!). Hmm? Not sure about that myself! But it is quite nice, in a fairly average way.

We popped into the church to see the angel roof and thought it was stunning. It really is a marvel and well worth the visit. The church is peaceful and the strained glass windows very special.

I took 29 members of my history society to visit the church. We had a superb introductory talk given by Bob and were served tea and coffee and biscuits .
Everyone was amazed and delighted by the beauty of the angel roof and we were able to view it from the ringing chamber which was a bonus for the photographers in the party.
It is a lovely church with a very welcoming atmosphere . I would recommend it to other group organisers who are looking for an interesting historic venue.

Hello I will be visiting this weekend. As March is the birth place of my father. Could you please tell me if the family grave is at this church. George Watson had a farm and lived in house called St Elmo. He was my grand father. I would love to be able to visit him. Regards Linda Macleod
