三陸海岸の中でも綺麗な浜辺です．普段は波もなく穏やかな風景が広がります．大きな黒っぽい石がごろごろしています．

This is a lovely park and beach in Kamaishi, at the site of the Hanaoi Hotel and Resort. The area was damaged by the March 2011 tsunami, but reconstruction work continues. The hotel seems to be closed to the public, but there seem to be construction workers who might stay at the hotel and work in the area. The beach is nearly deserted. It is not a sandy beach, but rocky with a lot of pebbles. Thus, one would be advised to wear beach and/or water shoes, as the pebbles can be uncomfortable to the un initiated. The beach appears rarely used and not very maintained. Unlike other beaches in Japan, garbage and debris are evident on the shores, but the water is quite clean and full of sea life, particularly near the rocky edges. You might see some abalone or sea urchins, lots of star fish, too. But be warned that removing these creatures, particularly the abalone and sea urchins, is illegal, and only allowed by licensed fisherman and only during certain times of the year.

何度も、何年も、釜石から大槌までの国道を通っているのに、この海岸と公園を訪問するのは今回初めてでした。去年通った時も、復興工事と砂利置場を見ていたので、この方面に行く雰囲気では無かったからです。釜石から大槌に1番目のトンネルを抜けると、右側に「水海公園」の標識が見えて来ます。海岸沿いの道を進むと、突然開けた広い広場が見えて来るでしょう。目の前は愛の浜、とてもいい名前の海岸です。こんな環境の良い場所に、そして海岸と繋がっている公園なら、夏の一日中ゆっくり出来る場所だなと思いました。たぶん地元の人しか知らない、憩いの場所だったのでしょう。海岸に来た目的はシーグラスと流木です。砂浜ではなく、小石の海岸なので、シーグラスはなかなかみつかりませんが、いくつか拾うことができました。ウニの白い殻やアワビの綺麗な貝、そして形の良い流木がたくさんでした。しかし、ここにも津波は来たのです。近くの花ノ井ホテルは形は有るものの、営業はしていませんでした。穏やかな海を見下ろす素晴らしい場所なのに、悲しい現実を目の当たりに複雑な思いでした。
