Just beautiful! We walked a bit further and the waterfalls kept coming. Highly recommended for those who can't get enough!

Very enjoyable and full of adventure, I suggest taking a tour in the morning before 7:00, because after that it's very crowded, sometimes stuck in the stairs and long queues in the photo spot

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Java! You can get there just fine from Malang. (Tip: book your own driver)
The waterfall is beautiful and highly recommended.
Down at the waterfall you can also buy tickets for Goa Tetes (the caves).
The stairs down are unfortunately not the very best and sometimes I had to set my mind to zero to use the rickety stairs and ramshackle handrails.
You get soaking wet anyway! 💦
If you go bring dry clothes (there are changing booths), a towel, water shoes (also for rent) a poncho (for sale there) and plenty of water and food)
Oh yes: and of course you take your waste back!!
Have fun!

The Tumpak Sewu Falls are one of the Unpacked in East Java and was one of the main reasons for our trip to Java. The falls are really impressive and due to the location not yet fully overflowing with tourists. During our stay it did not have quite as much water nevertheless it was still imposing. The large mass of water is only experienced below. The descent is not entirely without and requires a certain basic condition. If necessary, water shoes can still be rented on site. But the descent is worth it. If you are close by be sure to visit.

It's a very beautiful waterfall in Indonesia, we call it the Niagara of Indonesia, you have to go here to see its beauty.

Great place to stay. So much to see. Not very busy and already well known to tourists. Path is good to walk. If you are not the bravest then a guide is recommended who help you well. Also buy some snacks downstairs. Is very affordable and appreciated.

Stunning waterfall - it’s a 2 hour trip from Malang. We arranged a private driver and a local guide. The walk to the bottom is not for the faint hearted, the guide certainly helped, it’s really slippery and a narrow path with people trying to come back up the same way. We walked the circle via Goa tetes. You will definitely get wet feet and waterfall spray. The hike back up is tough with lots of stairs. Not sure it’s worth the 2 hours drive each way to be perfectly honest. Although seeing the scenery was nice, plenty of sugar cane trucks making it a hard drive as no places to pass. Spent about one hour there at Panorama and walking up and down.

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is stunning and well worth a visit, though getting to the bottom can be challenging for some. Be prepared for a 30-minute walk (one way, with average fitness) that includes staircases, rocks, and a small wooden bridge. The area is slippery, so wearing rubber non-slip shoes is essential, and it's also helpful to hold onto the bar on the staircase or a rope for extra support.
We appreciate our tour guide, Tony from Bromo Neutral Tour, for suggesting this spot as an alternative to Ijen Crater, which was closed. We had an amazing time here, enjoying the beauty of nature.

It was a tough walk down the dozens of staircases. For one who is afraid of height they can have an alternative to look at the hill. I went as far as the last stage until I chicken out at the path where the water gushing down a fleet of not so enticing staircases. Actually nobody told us that it's just a little bit more to the base because non of us know and no handphone is taken. You can carry the waterproof bag for handphone.
Anyway, just go all the way. It's worst it.
Please get yoursel ready to be wet.

My wife and I visited this waterfall as part of a larger tour through eastern Java. Given it’s a couple of hours drive from malang I think logistically it’s a bit tricky to visit on its own. Most would see it as part of a larger tour incorporating bromo and ijen.
Logistically I would suggest coming here early to avoid crowds but also because the least chance of rain in Indonesia is usually in the mornings. If the ticket gate is not open you can go in anyway - the ticket person will find you on the trail or you can pay on the way out. I cannot recall admission price but I don’t think it was too much.
After entrance you can go to a platform where you can get a fairly characteristic photo overlooking the falls.
Following that you can trek down to the base of the falls. Now this is along a set of stairs with rail (more like pvc pipe) but there are sections of it that have water overflowing. I’ve included a photo of this below. Thus if you want to keep your hiking shoes dry consider bringing flip flops. Alternatively there is shoe hire available at the top for 20000IR. The descent and ascent I believe it about 140m so no walk in the park.
Once at the bottom you can go to the base of the larger waterfall. You can also track further downstream to an area where you can swim.
Overall a great place worth visiting but logistically in the middle of no where so best combined with a larger tour of East Java.

Can we go down by ourselves without local guide? If not, how much for local guide?
كُتب بتاريخ 8 يناير 2024
I would strongly suggest you go with a guide. There are dangerous parts and the guide will advise where to step. We paid Harry 200K which to me was money well spent (he also took the most amazing photos of us at the falls).

Jika saya ingin mengabadikan view tumpak sewu tanpa menggunakan drone dengan background semeru apakah harus naik ke tempat yang lebih tinggi lagi atau hanya bisa di panorama?
كُتب بتاريخ 9 يونيو 2019
Is it possible to photograph the waterfall with Mount Semeru in the background without using a drone? Thanks
كُتب بتاريخ 1 مايو 2019
we've been several weeks living there, the best moment to take out your drone is on themorning. but let me warn you that many accidents occuring with drone stuck in the wood, wether they jammed into the branch, or suddenly lost, beware of it

How to reach the waterfall from Bromo ?
Bus? Taxi?
Thank you

Hi Sylvain,
My advice is to save time and be more efficient, as well as better safety and comfort, you can rent a car as well as an english speaking driver who can be your private tour guide, so they can tell you a lot about the place you visited, because along the way from bromo to tumpak sewu there is many interesting spots you can visit, among other things you can stop at the blue cotton waterfall, and returning after visiting this tumpak sewu waterfall you can visit one of the unique villages, the colorful village name is Jodipan village. A few months ago I explored East Java, I was helped by Java Private Tour, you can check on Google, they are very well known throughout Java Island.
