‪ランブイエの丘に建つ教会‬

‪パリ郊外の町ランブイエはあまり知られていない小さい町で「歩き方」にも載っていませんが、パリからの日帰り旅行にはぴったりです。この町の守護神のような聖ルバン教会、ハイストリートより高台に建っていて高い尖塔が遠くからでも目立ちます。内部はフランス語の説明しかなくてよく分かりませんでしたが、ひと気もなく静かで落ち着けました。‬

‪Petite église très bien restaurée qui vaut le détour. Eviter la visite le dimanche à 10h30 au risque de se faire enfermer pour la messe.‬

‪Dalle de verre church by Gabriel Loire‬

‪The Église Saint Lubin was consecrated in 1871, three years after building commenced. It is neo-Gothic in style, with a bell tower and three bells.

For us, the most interesting features of the church are the dalle de verre windows by the maître verrier (master glassmaker), Gabriel Loire, which were installed in 1970.

The windows represent the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church - these being: Baptism, the Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the sick, Marriage and Holy Orders - and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

Together with the windows at the Église Notre-Dame at Vimoutiers, these are amongst the smallest dalle windows by Loire that we have seen and the only ones in older churches.

Whilst we enjoyed seeing the windows here, we still prefer his monumental windows in modern churches, such as those at Epinal and Lèves (both of which we have reviewed).

Are the windows a must see? Probably not, unless like us, you are making a Gabriel Loire pilgrimage in France! If you are in the area, yes, they are worth seeing, but if you have limited time and want to see the best Loire windows, go to Epinal or Lèves and be astounded!‬
