Lovely lunch on steam train today. Lovely food and fantastic service by amazing staff who I presume are all volunteers. Our only gripe was the the time allocated. We pulled into Chinnor station and were told we had to leave the train in 10 mins as they had another trip to make. This despite the fact that we had not finished our coffee or the round of drinks we had just been served. This would not stop us highly recommending this to friends

Had a treat for my Birthday a Steam and Cream Tea! It was fantastic! Everyone was so cheerful kind and informative! All were included and welcomed. If you prefer you can have a hot chocolate. Wheelchair access if you can walk a little to cross the railway line. Took my elderly mum who does not go out much and she enjoyed it so much 👍🏾. All run by voluntaries so please support their excellent work! A brilliant day for all! Thank you for a great day out Keith and everyone! They also do Ploughman's lunches, fish and chips days,Christmas events! Check the web site and take some change to donate please! If you let them know it’s a Birthday the carriage can be decorated with balloons! I loved my day thank you sis “Shan” it was a wonderful treat for me and the family! 🎉☕️🎈🥰

Glad you had a great day.
There is a rear wheelchair friendly access by the way, we also have a ramp for boarding a converted part of the carriage.
But please book that in advance as we can only carry one at a time due to space issues.

Rarely open to the public, Princes Risborough North Signal Box does hold the occasional Open Day. I went to one last year back in October.
The signal levers are all on show as are some of the bells, dials and instruments that have kept the railways safe since the early days. They had demonstrations and talks - even let the kids pull some of the levers! Superb views over the main line with trains passing right under the windows. Well worth a visit. I enjoyed it so much, I've now joined as a volunteer!
Their next open day is Saturday 7th May 2022, 10-4 and it's free.

I had a fantastic day out on the Chinnor & Princes Railway, visiting there for the first time on the Sunday of their Spring 2022 diesel gala. I realise that not everyone wants to read a full review - so if I can encourage readers to do one thing, it would be to visit this glorious little heritage line. Though if you are willing to read on, I’ll tell you why I was so impressed.
I approached Princes Risborough station to be warmly greeted by platform staff who informed me that whilst I’d just missed a service, that they were running brake van rides with their class 08 shunter and Shark brake van. Whilst waiting for that to arrive the various volunteers shared some information about the history of the railway and made me feel really welcome. It’s amazing what a difference these interactions can make to a first time visitor - I was very impressed.
As for the services themselves - of course I was gutted that a couple of the locos were unavailable having developed faults earlier in the weekend - but all credit to the team for still managing to run an intensive timetable with the three locos which remained - all of which might I add were different classes so provided nice variety. Staff were conscious that the enthusiast community like to take photos as the signalman at Chinnor really strived to be accommodating whilst ensuring services ran smoothly. The drivers also were very accommodating.
In terms of provisions - Chinnor station has good catering facilities and an adequate number of clean toilets. It is a beautiful station with a lot of character. The extension into Princes Risborough is still in its infancy however I can see the line are trying to give the platform character with a shelter and ticket booth which compliment the bygone era the railway represents. I imagine over time that the station will develop.
For those travelling by train, as I was - it’s worth nothing that access to the C&PRR platform is from the mainline platform at Princes Risborough station which makes it really easy to get to. There are also lifts at the mainline station for disabled access, so I’d certainly recommend that those with limited mobility look to start their journey at this end of the line as it is highly accessible and disability friendly.
As for value - an adult ticket for the gala event was £20 which I feel is very good value for an intensive timetable - this is essentially a rover ticket which allows unlimited travel on the line. Even with a reduced number of locos available - I still feel this price is very good. In fact I ended up donating £10 to the signalling donations box and another £10 to the collection in the brake van as I felt what was on offer was so good.
The stars oh the show really were the staff - it’s a great team who clearly have a lot of passion for what they do. One stand out individual was a gentleman who I believe is called Peter (usually works in signalling but was working the platform/ ticket booth on the Sunday of the gala). Sensing my love of heritage railways, he went above and beyond to show me around and talk me through some of the history and runnings of the railway. I also witnessed how welcoming he was to others - he kept the atmosphere lively and welcoming and honestly I hope that should management read this, they take the time to appreciate his efforts. This said, every single employee I talked to was warm, welcoming and engaging. I honestly couldn’t ask for more.
I had such a good time and will definitely return. I’d like to thank all of those - both the volunteers who were visible and those who worked behind the scenes for creating such a wonderful event.

We visited Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway on 27th March with my mum, my wife and my son for the Mothers Day Afternoon Tea with a steam train ride.
My 86 year old mother loved it as did my wife and son. The ceeam tea was lovely and the staff and volunteers were so lovely and friendly and went ou of their way to make the experience memorable for us.
I would totally recommend them and will definitely be back again.
Thanks you so much Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway. We had an amazing time!

We are so glad you enjoyed your trip
It was a lot of work getting the new catering in place for the cream teas.
Once again the catering team pulled it off

Have just gone on the Santa Steam Train with my husband, 4 year old son and 7 month old baby. It was such a magical experience - the staff are completely made up of volunteers and they did a fantastic job, from elves showing you onto the train, activity books given out to the kids, Santa’s workshop at Chinnor station, it was all just wonderful. My 4 year old started off the journey saying “Mummy, I think it’s just someone dressed up as Santa” and by the end wanted to know when he’d gone back to the North Pole! Very well organised, everyone kept moving, lovely gifts for the kids, and free mince pies and hot drinks given out. Will remember the experience forever. We’ve also gone on the regular steam trains during the year which are also excellent, thoroughly recommend

If you haven't been to see Santa at Chinnor them I would highly recommend you do. We had a lovely day today littered with absolutely wonderful staff who were so very jolly. The little touches were so thoughtful and all in all it was a great experience that I would highly recommend. Thank you to everyone for making our memories so precious.

The whole experience from alighting the train at Princes Risborough and journeying to Chinnor and back, was amazing. Santa and all his helpers made the afternoon very memorable and fun for our grandchildren. Santa’s gifts were very good quality and the extra touches of goody bags delivered to each carriage and refreshments at “The North Pole” was very much appreciated.

Is there somewhere to have a picnic?
Station Master
Chinnor, UKمساهمة
Yes
There are picnic tables at the end of the platform, or you can eat your picnic on the train, just clear up please.
We also have an area under the trees in the car park that makes a great location , bring a blanket or even more - there's an entire parkland area over the road complete with childrens play equipment.

Hello
Is the train dog friendly?
Thanks
Michael H
لندن, UK2,030 مساهمة
Sarah,
Yes. This is from their site:
'Well behaved pet dogs are always made welcome and they TRAVEL FREE on daytime service trains in the non-dining sections of the trains. All we ask, please, is that you keep them on the floor or bring along a thick blanket for your pet to sit on. Please do consider other visitors and keep your dog on a short lead whilst on and about the station and on the train. Bowls of fresh drinking water are provided on the platform at Chinnor station and there is a pet-waste bin near the main entrance/exit.
Dogs are not however permitted in any areas where food is being consumed (Assistance Dogs excepted) and we ask you to respect the views of our other patrons please. If however you are reserving seats in the Luncheon Car or Afternoon Tea Cars and you also wish to bring your well behaved dog along, then it may be possible to arrange for one of our dog-friendly volunteer stewards to dog-sit during your meal. Please contact us via enquiries at Chinnor railway email address (see their website) to see how we may be able to help you.'

ChinnorPete has given some excellent information (thanks Pete) and you can see more on the website or General Enquiries (Daytime 10.00-17.00) on 07979 055366 are always very helpful. Worth mentioning that the few volunteers who have the appropriate skills are working very hard to restore the original 1906 platform at Princes Risborough, but that will be some months away. Then new track has to be laid to it and points put in so the locomotive can run-around its train. New volunteers always needed and without them, it may be some time before the work is completed!

Does the train go to Princes Risborough?
Keith
Chinnor, UKمساهمتيْن
Hello Michael, Thanks for your enquiry and just to say that the line extends almost to the outskirts of Princes Risborough, but goes no further at present. We are hoping that our trains will extend into that station in the not too distant future, but for the time being we are 3/4 mile from our goal. I hope that helps and if you would like to know something more then do call 07979 055366 or see our website please. Yours sincerely, Charles.
