If you come expecting a museum of emerging science and technology, you might be a tad disappointed. This really is more of a set of more or less sophisticated art pieces and exhibits showcasing various scientific concepts, but most of it is stuff that I would hardly qualify as "emerging" or innovative in 2023.
At the time of my visit (May 2023), exhibits included the international space station, a rocket engine, a model of the internet, several exhibits on climate change, and robots that look a bit like humans (without AI). While each exhibit was well made, there was nothing that I felt to be new or very exciting. A lot of it seemed geared towards children.
I'll throw in a word of appreciation to whoever thought up the interactive exhibit on the earth's future where pretty much no matter what you do, unless you are very lucky with the game's RNG, our planet is doomed in about 50 years. Way to lift the kids' spirits!
To balance up all this negativity, the tickets were cheap and the view from the top floor is gorgeous. If you're in the area and have a few hours to kill, you could do a lot worse.

Avec des ados fans de nouvelles technologies, nous nous attendions à un musée à la hauteur.
Nous sommes ressortis déçus car les explications et les expériences présentées s'adressent à de jeunes enfants.

Très décevant, vieillot et peu pédagogique. Des vidéos de chercheurs, des notions vieillottes sur les émotions ou la maladie d'alzheimer.
Je suis allé 2 fois au dôme pour un film à 180 degrés. Le premier héritage porte sur une capsule japonaise envoyée sur un astéroïde. La moitié porte sur des interviews et le son du casque était très faible. J'ai préféré l'enlever.
Le deuxième était en 3d et portait sur les étoiles. Pas plus pédagogique au niveau des images.

A visit to this museum is a really great activity for young and old. The museum makes you think and reflect on science and every day life in a very interactive way. We spent a full afternoon exploring the different exhibitions which are well translated into English.

Worth wandering round for an hour (or two). Some of the exhibits are cool. I like the radiation tank. Cafe on top floor has good views.

Es un lugar para niños. La mayoría de las cosas son experimentos interactivos y clases de ciencia en japonés. No tiene nada interesante si tienes mas de 6 años. Vimos los robots pero…. no hicieron nada especial

This is an excellent museum, with a wide variety of exhibits and activities to do. Rather than exhibiting old things, though, everything is geared toward the future (or the future as it was when the museum opened, at least) and emerging science. There’s a lot of speculative exhibits about how technology could be used to save the environment or improve our lives, as well as some rather dated looks at the internet. Some are more thought provoking experiences than actual things to learn about.
There’s also an area about space travel and exploring the oceans.
Overall, it’s a very unusual and interesting place to visit. There are English explanations on many, but not all, exhibits, but I think almost everything can be enjoyed or appreciated regardless.

MY FAVOURITE MUSEUM EVER.
This place exceeded my expectations. Everything is very interactive and interesting, a lot of simulations and games from which you can learn valuable lessons.
A lot of mind-blowing technology and a showcase of many problems Japan/the world is dealing with right now.
I also visited the theater dome, it was nice, but not as mindblowing as the permanent exhibition.
In total I spent 4 hours but it was not enough to see everything. I would spend at least 5 hours there, to see everything without any rush.

Good interactive museum. Here you can find something interesting for you and it doesn’t matter what is your sphere of interest - there are a lot of exhibits.
Of course, you’ll impressed with the robots.
Please note, that Asimo robot is not available in the museum.

特別展の動画クリエイター展に行って見ましたが、むしろ常設展が凄いと感じました。
建物の名が表すとおり、未来と科学のことをわかりやすく、展示しています。ロボットやIPS細胞など最新の技術などもあり、しかも莫大な費用がかかっていて、驚かされます。
3～5階の吹き抜け部分に吊るされている地球儀は、雲の様子が動画で示されていて、見ていて飽きませんでした。
残念ながら、ドームシアターを見ることが出来なかったので、次回はじっくりと楽しみたいと思います。

There are some exhibits aimed at that age group. The robots might interest a 4 year old. Most of the interactive exhibits are not clear as to what they are demonstrating for any age.

Bethany, you said if we are in Tokyo or 3 or 4 days, do other things. We booked a bus tour of the city and also got tickets to Mori Digital Art Museum. Are there any other places near Mori, other than the National Museum of Emerging Science that would be a better use of our time?

How was the Ninja special exhibit? Is it geared towards younger kids (we have middle and high schoolers) and is there enough English for them to understand? Thank you!

Yes. It is a fun exhibit. My 17 year old grandson, his 16 year old friend and I enjoyed the exhibit. We are only proficient in English. Each of the museum exhibits including the Ninja Exhibit was understandable.
