Museo molto interessante da visitare per le sue opere di ceramica tradizionale giapponese, ma soprattutto per la sua struttura che unisce un'architettura attuale, ma con richiami del passato e un giardino su più livelli dove rilassarsi e meditare in un ambiente che sembra di un'altra epoca, in pieno centro a Tokyo, quartiere di Omotesando.

We did not spend a lot of time looking at the art collection, but the five stars are for the garden. It is spectacular. And we were there in the winter. Highly recommend this as a place to get some calm and peace amidst the bustle of Tokyo. One of my favorite gardens anywhere.

A beautiful gem of a museum. Small but with gorgeous pieces of classical Asian art carefully curated and displayed. The museum and garden itself is worth the trip.

表参道の駅から歩いてしばらく、高級ブランドの路面の並ぶ通りの先に見える竹垣。長いエントランスを歩いていくうちに、不思議と静かな空間に引き込まれていく感じがしました。自分が訪れた時には企画展「よめないけど、いいね！」が開かれていて、書の名品を鑑賞することができました。展示の見せ方や解説が工夫されていて、思った以上に楽しむことができました。若い方もたくさんいたのは意外でした。8月の初めの猛暑のなか訪れたため、庭園で長い時間を過ごすことはちょっとムリでした。また別の季節に来て、庭園もゆっくり散策したいと思いました。

南青山にある美術館です。
こちらは実業家の根津嘉一郎が蒐集した日本・東洋の古美術を保存、展示するためにつくられた美術館です。
ジャンルは多岐に渡り、その中には国宝、重要文化財、重要美術品も含まれています。
お茶室が点在する広大な庭園は本当に素晴らしく、是非とも時間をとってゆっくりと散策して頂きたいです。
正門から美術館玄関口へのアプローチも素晴らしいです。竹の廊下は落ち着いた、気持ちのいい美しさです。
興味深い企画展や特別展があり、何度も訪れたい美術館です。

コロナ禍の2020年、早春から臨時休館していた美術館・博物館は、緊急事態宣言解除後に再開し始め、6月にはほとんどの施設がオープンにこぎつけてくれた。
もちろん事前予約や入館者数制限を導入してのとこがほとんどで、客側も入館時の体温チェック、マスク着用、手指の消毒で、きちんとそれに応えるのは当然のことだ。だから、これまで展覧会で感染したという例は一つもない。
そんな中、頑として開館しない美術館はいくつかあった。
根津美術館もその一つで、3月からの半年間は完全休館を貫いた。
毎年5月恒例の燕子花図の公開も今年は残念ながら見送りとなった。
そしてようやく9月になって、再開宣言。
他館に倣って日時指定予約方式を採用だそう。
まずはオープンを喜びたいが、世間はコロナ第二波の真っただ中。
間が悪いというか何というか、それなら何でもっと早く開けなかったかと嫌味の一つも言いたくなるね。
予定していた企画展を何とか開催したい、一人でも多くの人に来館してほしいという熱意と誠意が他館には感じられるのに対し、根津美術館はこの半年間、どんな知恵を絞って、再開に向けての努力をしてきたかが全く見えない。
今回のやり方なら、遅くとも7月には開館できたはずだ。
おまけに、ここはコレクションだけで立派な展示ができる美術館だ。
当初予定の企画展が頓挫しても、所蔵品を常設展示すれば来館者は十分見込まれる。というより、コロナで疲弊した時期だからこそ、都心一等地にあるここが先陣を切って、美術ファン始め多くの人に癒しの場を提供すべきなのだ。
実はこのようなことを7月初めにトリアドに投稿し掲載された。
そしたら、1か月以上経った8月中旬、突然その投稿がボツにされた。
長期間掲載後のことだから、おそらく館側の圧力によるものだ。
核心を衝かれて、頭に血が上ったか。

尾形光琳の燕子花図屏風で有名な根津美術館。賑やかな表参道から南青山に歩いていくと竹藪を思わせるエントランスが。実業家 根津嘉一郎氏の遺志により昭和16年に開館されました。日本と東洋の古美術が収蔵され、なにより邸宅跡の茶室が点在する広大な日本庭園は静かで散策が楽しめます。お目当ての燕子花図屏風は5月の燕子花の開花に合わせて展示される為、残念ながら見ることは出来ませんでした。四季折々の風情を大切にされているのですね。

the garden outside is definitely the highlight here for me. but of course the museum is enjoyable and informative. nice location, central to Omotesando where you can have a bite at cicada too. the gift shop always has something fun too! great gift spot ;)

最寄り駅は表参道です。
都心のど真ん中とは思えない程に静かで落ち着きます。
モダンな建物は隈研吾氏の設計なのだそう。
毎年５月に公開される尾形光琳の「燕子花」が一番のお勧めです☆
お庭も素敵です。

I spent a lovely 2 hours wandering around all the different exhibits. When I visited the special exhibition was on tea making bits and bobs...very beautiful and interesting. The main draw for me though was all the Buddhist items. Theres a wide variety from all over the Buddhist world all displayed in darkened rooms/areas with spot lighting...very stylish.
The other thing that brought me here was the gardens...and they were stunning. It's a really lovely place to follow meandering paths around and to find a quiet place to sit and contemplate.
The only drawbacks were the cost to get in ¥1100 and the fact that photos were not allowed anywhere in the museum (only in the garden). I understand that they don't want hordes of people clambering to get that selfie or insta pic, but still. I would add that the gift shop is full of beautiful things, but that too was really expensive.

Does the 1300¥ fee for the special exhibition also cover admission to the rest of the museum? Or is it 1300¥ for the special exhibition and 1000¥ for general admission (2300¥ total)?

When I went, I believe the special exhibition price was separate. I remember skipping the exhibition because we really wanted to see the garden the exhibition at the time we were not interested in. I’m pretty sure but. This is several months ago. Make sure to walk around the area afterwards some nice shops even if it’s just window shopping.

Is there a permanent collection always in display? We will be in Tokyo beginning of April 2018 and we would like to know if the Museum will be completely closed between the seasonal exhibitions.

I think Nezu museum is closed between the seasonal exhibitions. Next exhibition will start from April 15th, 2018. You can check the schedule on the museum's web site.

I know it's a subjective question, but about how long would you say, on average, one needs to spend to get a good look at exhibits on display and see the garden?

Depends on how interested you are in old Chinese artifacts and how much you are interested in gardens. Two very different things. When I was there (mid-September 2017) there was so many Chinese artifacts that I felt like I'd seen enough for a lifetime. I spent about two hours in the museum and two hours in the garden. If I went back, I'd take a good camera and spend 1 hour in the museum and 3 in the garden. Others will have different views.

The Nezu Musuem will open again on Tuesday 13 April with a new exhibition. It is always closed on Monday but open from Tuesday to Sunday every week except when they are installing a new exhibition. There is a good website in English. Be sure to tour the garden and have tea at the teahouse. We lived across the street for several years in the 1970s but the museum has been rebuilt and expanded since those days.
