If you haven't visited Devenish Island you really should put it on your "list".
It's interesting, beautiful, unspoiled and such an adventure for young and old.
The best way to get there, in my opinion, is by Erne Water Taxi. You'll hear lots of historical and interesting facts which add so much to the experience.
An hour or two is plenty of time to explore (include Enniskillen Castle in your itinerary for the day) and will give you a really memorable day out.

We tried to visit at a time when there were still some covid restrictions. There was no service and no notice at the jetty about wheat was going on. The island can be seen reasonably from the jetty. It looks really interesting. Historically it is a significant site

We took Erne Boat taxi out to the island. Our boat driver walked us onto the island and gave us its background. It’s a lovely site full of history. You wouldn’t stay to long. 15 minutes and it’s done. The round tower was closed due to Covid so maybe longer when there’s no more restrictions.

I visited this old monastic settlement and had the whole island to myself, it is very picturesque, with an impressive high cross, a magnificent round tower, Abbey as well as St Molaise's House/church, the round tower was not open but there is a very impressive spiral staircase up to the bell tower? of the abbey. Great photo opportunities here, and of interest to young and old. It is very easily accessible to all.

A boat of some kind is needed to reach the island, so this will need to be planned if you intend visiting this site. There are numerous remains on the site, from the Celtic-era round tower and old churches, to the newer Norman-era monastic buildings. The round tower is exceptionally well-preserved and can be ascended. However the tower is not always open to the public and this must be checked before arrival if you wish to climb the tower. There are interesting tombstones, and an unusual carved cross also on the site. Definitely one of the better preserved monastic sites in Ireland.

As good excuse as any to head out to Devenish than when you have American visitors. Such a peaceful place full of history, I love to take plenty of photos every time i visit.

It’s a very peaceful place ....took the kestral tour from round o....journey time was around 2 hours that included 40 minutes on the island . The lakes are beautiful and make for nice photos . We had a lovely relaxing day in Fermanagh.

I visited the island in my youth and I have always wanted to go back. We got the boat from Troary Jetty and it was £5 per person. We didn’t pay for the baby but the two kids (10 and 9) were also £5. Spent 45 minutes on the island just wandering around and taking pictures. It’s interesting enough and there’s plenty of space for the kids to run around. There are toilets on the island and a small visitors centre where you can escape the rain if necessary. A nice way to spend half a day if you’re in the area.

We stopped off at the island as part of a boat tour of the lakes. The guide provided some interesting history. Apart from toilets and a relatively un-inspiring museum, there's not much to see apart from the ruins of the buildings. If you're in the area, by all means pay a visit, but apart from that, I'd give it a miss!

Booked with 'Erne Tours' for a cruise on Lough Erne for 14:25 - this left from 'Round O' wharf.
We boarded the MV Kestrel at the wharf and we set off. It travelled around the end of the Lough past the Castle and then headed off to Devenish Island, I thought that we would be just passing the island, but this actually landed and we had about 25 minutes to look around the old site. It was pretty good to see.

There is a regular ferry every hour from 10 til 5 in July and August from Trory jetty (It's about 100 yards across to the island). The cost is £5 return for adults, £4 for children, £4 concession. In September, October and November there is a reduced service (google Devenish ferry) and then it stops for the winter.

From the boat dock to the ruins they have some hard topped paths around. There is a bit of a walk and a slight incline up to some of the ruins. They have a wonderful building not far from the dock with many interesting things to read about what life was like for the monks. A few of the ruins are nearer the dock and you can see most all of the structures from here also.
