This is seriously a great place. Completely blown away with our visit. Not sure who or why anyone would mark this less than 5 Stars. Looking forward to my next visit.

Truly amazing. If you having any interest in planes this is a real must visit. An amazing collection of aircraft, some museum pieces and very rare other still flying and even rarer. So much to see, most aircraft from the 1930's onwards. I believe in total they have 200 or so. Informative signage and you even get close to aircraft being renovated. We saw flying Spitfires, Harvard's and a very rare P36 Hawk doing some amazing aerobatics, oh and a couple of beautiful Dragon Rapide's. You can even visit the inside of many of the static aircraft, Concorde & lots of airliners. If you book ahead you can take a flight in some really rare old aircraft. On top of this they have a building dedicated to land warfare with loads of tanks, cannon, trucks, etc, etc. What's not to like........

We have been waiting to go to RAF Duxford for a long time and were not disappointed. The site is huge, so be prepared to wear out some shoe leather. Although there was transport for people who needed support. The main focus being on aircraft from the First World War onwards, but some vehicles and other things of interest also. The volunteers were excellent and the handy maps from the IWM allowed you to choose what most interested you. We were really impressed by the modern building of the U.S. Exhibition space and marvelled at the collection within it. But not just the aircraft, but the individual stories of the armed forces personnel were so amazing. The other hangars contained many incredible aircraft and it was good to also see the restorations in some of the working workshops. We spent five hours there and didn’t see everything, so a return visit is on the cards. Thanks to all the staff for making it a great day.

This is such a wonderful place to visit; the range and quality of the exhibits and the educational events are of the highest order.
But oh what a shame that it is not possible to get a decent meal. The menu choices look ok if not a bit on the pricey side (it’s unrealistic to expect them to be cheap), but the meal delivered really did disappoint. A miserable excuse for an “all day breakfast” left one both hungry and robbed; a shame as what there was of it was good, but I could have eaten three of them.

We came on a Saturday- three generations and booked my elderly mother a mobility scooter which was perfect. She brought her Dad's medals to see if they could be identified. Her Dad flew as a navigator in Lancaster Bombers in World War II. A volunteer called a man named Graham to assist. He was amazing - so good with my mum, his knowledge was immense and he showed her where her Dad would have sat and ejected from and gave lots of advice about his service records and his medals.
I cannot thank him highly enough - he made hers and our day. This museum is amazing on it's own but with people the passion of Graham staffing it - it takes it to another level.

The amount to see in this collection means you can have a full day out with ease. If you are someone who is into the details then it'll take more than a day to go round. there are often aircraft flying in the summer months which adds to the atmosphere. Not all the airliners are open at the same time so this can be a bit hit and miss.

Spent 2 1/2 days at Duxford to view all museums and exhibits the day after an airshow so there were fewer people about and easier to see things. Very helpful volunteers everywhere I went. Shop has plenty to offer. Small cafes and restaurant offer good choice of hot and cold food. Easy to get to just off M11.

I’m married to an aviation geek. I think he loves airplanes above all else! I’d promised to take him a few times and finally had the opportunity to. It’s a very well organized place. Lots of volunteers to help and give information about the exhibits and museum. Hanger 1 has all the planes but don’t miss the other hangers. There is a shuttle to drive to the other hangers and a place to grab lunch. You can also watch planes taking off and landing.
If you are coming from London without a car, the train to Royston is very easy to catch from Finsbury Park Station, easy to get to from the Underground Victoria Line. You could go from St Pancreas/Kings Cross as well, but Finsbury is less walking. We got a taxi from Royston which was about £28, get the drivers number to get back.

This is quite a place if you are interested in aircraft, aerial warfare and some exhibits to do with land war. It is very impressive and spread over a large area so expect a lot of walking although there is a bus you can catch to go round. There is an impressive shop too.
There are catering facilities but I’d take a picnic at peak times as I’m not sure the facilities could cope at busy times! One of the facilities was not open when we were there and the cafe in the American Hanger didn’t offer any hot food.
So much to see and if you are really lucky you may see planes taking off and landing as we did. Now my top tip is, and it assumes you may want to return because you won’t see everything in one day, so consider becoming a member of IWM. This will get you free admission here and to the Churchill War rooms and HMS Belfast both in London. Full details are on their website and membership cards are emailed out for immediate use. So we joined the evening before we went and will certainly return. It’s a bit of a no brainer!

How do I get from Cambridge railway station to Duxford?
Myrm
كامبريدج, UK17,777 مساهمة
Taxi is the quickest and easiest way, normally
Except for one day a week buses dont stop at the museum except on Flying days.
It may be easier and will be cheaper to travel to Whittlesford Parkway station rather than Cambridge and organise a taxi from there or possibly walk. That depends on what if anything else you plan to do in Cambridge/bags etc.
If this is a flying day you are going for then there are shuttle buses from Cambridge station, plus the park and rides - all listed on the event day webpage
Do you need to prebook tickets for Duxford

Hi everyone,
We are due to attend the Battle of Britain air show next weekend and just wondered if anyone new how far the car park is away from museum. Reason I ask is we plan on taking a picnic and folding chairs with us but dont fancy carrying it around with us all day so wondered if it was close enough to pop back to the car.
Any advise would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Kelly

Hi Kelly I would concur with Andy P's response and would add. Car park is not large so try to get there early. Also there are lots of tables, benches and grass there so a picnic will work well. The museum in a number of buildings so quite spread out you definitely don't want to be carrying around more than the essentials. Regards Ian

If we have pre booked tickets and we arrive late because of traffic etc, would we still be allowed entry. Thankyou

We are attending the summer air show next week for the first time and will be bringing 4 x chairs. 2 members are walking disabled. Can we set up chairs when we get there and what would you recommend to bring?
Volpetervo
Bradford, UK400 مساهمة
There's a free bus which runs around the airfield lots of places to put chairs not too many places to buy food so a packed lunch could be a good idea
Was I seeing things this morning or did a Lancaster bomber fly low ovet Duxford?

Are there any indoor areas to eat a picnic please as the weather is not looking good? Also, do you know if you are able to go back to your car and re enter? Many thanks

Hello, I have purchased a gold experience ticket. What are peoples experiences of it ? Is the cost worth it ? Are the toilets really " luxury " ? Lol.
Please only respond if you have been to Duxford with the Gold experience in the last couple of years.
Thanks all.
