La Torre con i suoi 36 metri, svetta in piazza Leopardi e costituisce tutto ciò che rimane dell'antico Palazzo Comunale.
Risale probabilmente al XII secolo per simboleggiare l'unione in in un solo comune dei tre castelli del colle di Recanati e presenta, nella parte terminale, una tetrrazza con merlatura ghibellina, che fu aggiunta dopo un successivo rimaneggiamento della costruzione nel XIV secolo.
Il quadrante in pietra bianca un bassorilievo in bronzo in cui è raffigurata dell'orologio è della metà del Cinquecento.
Dalla fine dell'Ottocento la torre appare isolata nella piazza per la costruzione del nuovo Palazzo del Comune e dei lavori di rifacimento della Piazza Leopardi.
Sulle pareti si possono ammirare pregevoli sculture e lapidi. Tra queste lo stemma della città di Fermo, che ricorda l'alleanza tra le due città, il bassorilievo in bronzo in cui è raffigurato il trasporto avvenuto per circostanze miracolose della casa di Maria Vergine da Nazareth a Loreto e lo stupendo leone rampante, simbolo di Recanati, opera di Jacopo Sansovino, una targa commemorativa dedicata ai caduti in guerra.
All'interno è ospitato il "Museo di Recanati" ( MUREC): su sette livelli, esso consente ai visitatori di ripercorrere attraverso fotografie e materiale informativo digitalizzato, la storia della città e dei suoi personaggi di maggior rilievo dalle origini al Novecento.

“The wind comes carrying the sound of the hour / From the tower of the village” (Giacomo Leopardi)

This imposing medieval tower is one of the more interesting historical sights in Recanati. You’ll find it in the main square, Piazza G. Leopardi so its easy to visit because most tourists will find themselves here at some point.
There’s a lot to see in the piazza. The tower sits alongside the Palazzo Communale, the church of San Domenico and the large bronze statue of Giacomo Leopardi.
Built around 1160 and 36m tall, it was intended as a part of the city’s defensive fortifications. From the tower, one could see for miles and would-be invaders could be easily spotted.
The distinctive swallowtail battlements at the top are very typical in this area.
The tower’s shaft is also covered with a number of inscriptions and plaques. It’s worth taking the time to have a closer look.
The front is dominated by a WWI memorial, a large bronze relief (1634) and a 16th century clock.
Tiny carved faces and inscriptions surround the clock. All three inscriptions are too high up to be able to be read from the street but the two above it proclaim, "Country chosen by the Virgin Mary" and "Heir of Pompey’s coat of arms”. The third inscription below, dates the town back to Roman times and states, "Recanati (was born from) Helvia Ricina, a Roman colony”.
We were curious about the large, black coloured relief. It portrays the transport of the Holy House of Loreto from Nazareth to Italy on the wings of angels. Interestingly, St Anna’s church, just behind the tower, also has a to-scale copy of the Holy House. What was the connection? Apparently, it turns out that for a few centuries, Loreto was considered (at least by Recanati) to be a part of their town and they therefore felt they had a legitimate stake in the house.
Walking around to the left hand side of the tower, you see a white carved lion, strangely balanced on one leg and wielding a sword. He represents the Recanati coat-of-arms and is the work of the famous sculptor Andrea Sansovino. The inscription beneath is a short poem celebrating the town.
For those on the Giacomo Leopardi trail, there’s also an excerpt from one of his poems here. Plaques like this one are scattered throughout the town in honour of their most famous and best-loved son.
This excerpt is from the poem, "Le Ricordanze” (The Remembrance) where he refers to the comforting sound of the chiming of the Torre Borgo bells.
It reads, “Viene il vento recando il suon dell’ora / Dalla torre del borgo. Era conforto / Questo suon, mi rimembra, alle mie notti” (The wind comes carrying the sound of the hour / From the tower of the village. It was comforting / This sound, I remember, in my nights).
NOTE: Inside there’s a small museum which wasn’t open when we were there. I believe it’s open every day in July and August.

Torre posta nella piazza centrale dedicata al famoso poeta Giacomo Leopardi, alta 36 m di grande imponenza è possibile effettuare una visita al suo interno per arrivare oltre il campanile e vedere uno scorcio di tutta la città al modico prezzo di 5 euro consigliato!

La torre di Recanati è stupenda! Merita la visuale dall’alto, è una finestra sulle colline marchigiane e dintorni!
Per fortuna il meteo è stato dalla nostra parte, non c’era un fil di nebbia!

Torre di grande interesse storico culturale. Inoltre la sua collocazione accanto alla piazza è piuttosto inusuale. Consiglio la visita e la salita della stessa per godere di un unico panorama e per conoscere la storia e l'utilizzo nei secoli della torre. Accesso consentito in orari specifici e con contributo di 3,00 euro per persona.

E' rimasta isolata dopo la demolizione del vecchio municipio. Si può accedere in cima previo pagamento di 3,00 euro, dove si può vedere un bel panorama sui dintorni. La salita è un po' imegnativa.

La alta Torre del Borgo del dodicesimo secolo si trova nella centralissima piazza Leopardi a fianco della statua del poeta. La torre presenta merli ghibellini con al centro un orologio di metà '500 e sotto una targa ai caduti del 1923. L'interno è visitabile e ospita il Museo di Recanati.

La torre del borgo si trova in piazza Leopardi, proprio accanto al palazzo comunale. Edificata nel XII secolo, si tratta di una torre a pianta quadrata alta più di 36 metri. La torre è visitabile a pagamento (3€) e al suo interno è stato allestito il multimediale Museo di Recanati. È anche possibile salire fino in cima e godere di una bella veduta panoramica sul borgo, ma bisogna prestare un pò di attenzione poiché le scale sono piuttosto ripide e strette. Ho trovato molto interessante nell’ambito del percorso espositivo l’orologio con un quadrante in pietra del Cinquecento.

Es la Torre que preside la Plaza principal de Recanati, al lado del Palacio Comunal, y el Monumento a Recanati. Con un reloj en una de sus paredes, se aprecia la ciudad y más allá. Se sube a pie con una entrada.

Torre al centro città sul corso principale accanto la statua di Leopardi. Visitabile per godere del panorama. Sul fianco un'orologio solare.
