Hi Mark. Our Swordfish Cafe is now permanently closed. Instead we have a lovely newly refurbished cafe inside the Museum for our visitors. I hope this helps.

Hi Carmel. The nearest village to the Museum is Ilchester which although small, has two hotels - the Ilchester Arms and the Northover Manor and a B&B Liongate House. There is two other pubs, a cafe, Indian and Chinese takeaways and an Italian restaurant in the village. The biggest town is Yeovil which is approximately 9 miles away and where there are more choices but the amenities are much more spread out. I hope this helps. Rachael

Thanks everyone. We can confirm that motor homes are more than welcome in our car park. There is no height restriction on the entrance and we have lots of spaces available. Our gates are locked at 18.00 each day so overnight parking is not permitted. Hope this helps.

Hi Lorraine. I can confirm that only assistance dogs are permitted within the Museum although dogs are welcome in designated areas of the car park and grass outside. Hope this helps.

Good morning. The Museum is a bit out of the way I am afraid, Most of our rail customers take a taxi from the train station and there is a taxi rank at all local stations. If you do decide to use this option, I recommend booking your return taxi journey from the Museum if you can. Please do email us directly, if you have further queries.

Good morning. Under 5s are free to enter the Museum which is partly because they will get less out of it than older children. Having said that, there are lots of things for little ones to do. We have dressing up, colouring tables, and a felt board as well as interative displays with buttons to press etc.. There are a few aircraft and an life raft you can climb into or onto which usually entertains children. I would advise caution with Hall 3 which is our Carrier Experience, a simulated tour of 1970s Ark Royal. It begins with a “helicopter ride” to the flight deck which is dimly lit and quite noisy and then visitors can enjoy a tour of the island which lasts about 40 minutes. You are able to skip this part if you feel it would be too much. Please do speak to a member of staff when you visit, if you have any concerns. As others have said, it really does depend on your children and whether they are interested in aircraft as there are plenty of these to see! There are always family trails available as well so please do ask about these when you visit. We also have our fantastic new children's play area which is suitable for all ages.

Thank you for your question and we are very sorry that your recent visit was not as expected. The Museum was delighted to be asked to host an event such as BBC Question Time. Opportunities to host events such as these do not come up very often and we were not in a position to negotiate the date. In fact the last time the Museum hosted was back in 2002! The Museum did everything it could to publicise its involvement in this event including prominent listings on our website (including on our ‘opening times’ and ‘buy your tickets’ pages). The Flight Deck was still visible as a part of any visit and the Island Tour and Experience Chamber were all fully accessible on the day. Access to the vast majority of the Museums’ exhibitions was unaffected. Once again we are sorry that your visit did not meet your expectations and hope you will visit the Museum again in the future.
