Just walked up Dumgoyne Hill (2 mile walk, not the longer 10km walk to Earls Seat). It was, as other websites say, a steep wee hill, which was enjoyable on the whole. The circular route (where the path leads to up to the summit on the left side of the hill) is probably the best approach if you have children or older family members with you. We tackled the more direct route- a steep front ascent with two eleven year olds and a seven year old. While the kids scrambled up with no concerns at all, we made the decision to cut across to take the less steep descent on the left of the hill as the path was very eroded, dry and loose underfoot, with stones and sometimes tufts of grass rolling away from you. I would not, under any circumstances, tackle the front ascent in wet weather unless you were a seasoned climber with suitable equipment. That said, it was an enjoyable, short walk out and once the distillery is open again to visitors it would be brilliant to finish with a wee dram!

Fab walk with brill views. Local amenities are great with turnip the beer, beech tree, 3 sisters bake all in the area. Great wee tours at dumgoyne distillery too if you fancy a wee trip and some info on how whisky is made

Moved to the area a few months ago, and on a nice day friends said they were visiting Scotland from Australia and wanted to climb a mountain. Dumgoyne was perfect as it’s near our house, not too high, has fantastic all round views of Glasgow and Loch Lomond and not too strenuous overall. Started at the War Memorial in Strathblane, walking along the old aqueduct road then path towards the north.

Walked to the top to see the sunrise.
I have climbed Dumgoyne before but this was the first time to do it so early in the morning.
Always an amazing 360° view.
More peaceful than usual because there was no noise from cars on the main road. Only birds calling.
It was a fairly steep climb for me but you gain height quickly.
I was surprised that I didnt need my head torch at all.
I was glad to have my gloves and windproof as it was windy at the top.
It took 2 hours hours in total to get up and down. Would probably have been quicker if I hadn't been stopping frequently to take pictures.
Would love to do it again.
Best bits: the quiet and walking at the height that birds are flying. Watching their silhouettes against the sunrise.
Nature at its best.

We parked in the layby before the Glengoyne Distillery (on A81). The path then heads straight up the field (over a fence) from there toward the small (but steep) hill ahead called Dumgoyne.
Once you cross the second fence, and the tiny creek, there are two ways to climb DumGoyne...the path forks. To the left is a more circular route and to the right is the steep (proper way the locals call it) direct, more scramble path upward. We had an 8 year old with lots of hill walking experience, so we took the direct path up. And a grandparent who used the circular path.
We did backtrack from Dumgoyne, to the side to join the path to Earl's Seat which heads away from the small hill, in a north/northwest direction. It can be a bit boggy here until you ascend again. Then on the flats above the small hills it can also be a bit wet. Nothing a good pair of boots can't handle. (There is a path suggested on the north side of Dumgoyne but depending on the weather and where you descend, the crags can be dangerous.)
Then you return the way you came....lovely easy walk for about 3.5 hours. Ending with your choice is pubs or distillery in the area. As in Scotland, always dress well - weather can change and layers work well.
