Exceptional meal with family and friends. Small dining room beautifully decorated with pleasant staff. The meal was delicious with home made ice cream to finish it off.
Would not hesitate to go again.

Nice way to spend an hour or two.. bisit in the dry weather though to get the best of your visit.

Shame that this garden is becoming neglected and shabby in places.Could be so much better.They need to continue the restoration process.The glasshouses that were restored need maintenance to preserve them......could be a wonderful attraction with a little TLC and crying out for a tearoom !

Thanks for your honest review. If you met me when you were visiting, you will remember that I am wheelchair bound and that gardening to an immaculate standard is an impossibility. I keep the gardens to act as an inspiration and resource for my painting. Winsford Walled Garden is our home - we do not aim to run it as a commercial business with tea rooms etc. and we have no other staff. We would be very happy to keep the gardens private to ourselves but feel we would be depriving the many visitors who have been enjoying our garden.

As a keen gardener we searched for places of interest for our mini break in West Devon.
Found this amazing gem, down a small country lane.
We were greeted with written information about the garden and planting.
Would thoroughly recommend a visit.

This lovely garden is reached down a fairly rough road, but is well worth the visit. The owner of the property is very happy to discuss his garden. It is very sheltered and there is very little bare soil for weeds to get a foothold. This is a very well established garden. There are no frills, cafe, toilets etc, but the garden is to be enjoyed for its peace and colour.

The approach to the garden along a gravel lane was interesting in itself, but the actual garden was a delight. We were greeted warmly by the owner, who took time to explain about the garden and its origins and to point us in the right direction. We spent about an hour wandering through the beautiful borders, a riot of colour and lovely textures, and then admired the wonderful collection of bamboos. The Victorian greenhouses were a delight and the tomatoes growing in them looked superb. A really tranquil spot and we will definitely return.

This is an amazing garden. Quite unlike other gardens you can visit. Unbelievable numbers of butterflies around. I absolutely love it. The owner Dugald Stark is an artist, and his paintings are as full of colour and happiness as his garden. It is wonderful. Well worth repeat visits.

I didn't know what to expect at first. I was quite amazed with this almost hidden but very delightful garden. You also get a sence of its Victorian historic atmostphere. It was well worth the visit. It was a last minute exploring of the countryside. The owners are very warm and welcoming.

The garden is really beautiful! It has been set out by a brilliant plantsman during the renovation of the site, with a mix of shrubs and perennials now maturing nicely. The current owner gave us a friendly welcome, and chatted about the history and the plants. A lovely mix of texture and colour to discover as the path winds through from the gravel drive, along the old walls, and down past the bamboos to the greenhouses. Take a moment to sit and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and watch the butterflies. A small selection of plants are available to buy, next to a gallery of paintings, many based on flowers from the garden. The only problem we found was finding it in the first place. When you turn off the main road through Halwill, you end up travelling along a rough road full of potholes, which looks like it ends at a holiday site for Anglers, but keep on going another 50 yards and you will find the gardens on the left. (check the website for the opening hours as these vary through the season)

We weren't sure of what we'd find when we got here due to some of the mixed reviews online but we're so glad we did take the time to visit. On arrival we were met by the owner, Dugald, who gave us a brief history of the gardens. It took us about an hour to slowly wander around admiring the beautiful plants/planting and we now have serious greenhouse envy!
