I brought two children, Churaumi Aquarium.
Whale sharks are amazing in the main aquarium. And the black manta rays and numerous fish were gorgeous.
The cafe inside was also a great time to have a drink next to the aquarium.
The kids loved it.

It was a weekday in August because it was summer vacation, but it was very crowded. There are whale sharks in the big tank.

We visited Okinawa for two weeks, the people were friendly and very traditional. The food was always fresh, caught and grown and breads made daily.
The American village is very nice snd plenty of places to eat and visit.
We went to the Aquarium which was very interesting.
The zoo was somewhat disappointing, only birds.
Konti island was beautiful , the Hawaii of Okinawa. Visitors from countries all around.
Prices were high but everything was first class.
The food was very tasteful and fresh. The prices were fair 64 yen to one American dollar.
Credit card or yen, did not accept American money.
The people were very friendly.
The 475 square mile island has 1.5 million people that included 30k, US Soldiers.
Visiting hacksaw ridge was very educational.
Driving is on the left side.
Most enjoyable.
The American village is very nice snd plenty of places to eat and visit.

Yes, it's impressive to see the beauty of the animals that you don't usually see. But unfortunately it is also a great cruelty to animals when I consider that a whale shark is kept the gentle and largest animal in a pool of, I say about 30 at 50m, can also deceive me, but it is not much bigger, which can only swim in circles. After about half an hour out I saw ten more turtles in a paddling pool. I didn't even look at dolphins. I regretted spending 2100 ¥.

Actually, I'm not a fan of aquariums and zoos. But the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is really exciting and the second largest in the world. I found the exhibition on poisonous marine life particularly impressive and of course the giant tank in which a whale shark lives in addition to manta rays (though I also find it morally questionable).

很大的水族館，裡面分很多館，但沿路都沒有遮陽的地方，海豚🐬秀也是露天廣場，熱曬到痛
防曬還有水一定要及時補充，因為連販賣機水全部都賣完，但整體裡面的水族生物非常的漂亮

The conditions that some species had were very sad. Especially manatees in a small pool without any stimulation. Some fish are in tiny aquariums where they could barely move. And finally they continue doing dolphin shows for the entertainment of visitors, that should have been banned years ago!!

This was my second time there, more than 10 years ago. This was my child's first flight since he was old enough to understand, so we headed to this must-see tourist spot in Okinawa, expecting it to be crowded during Golden Week.
As a precaution, we scheduled our arrival at 8:30, the opening time, and there was almost no traffic jam. Perhaps because they opened a little earlier, we were able to enter without any crowds, and we were able to get a card that is available until 10:00 right at the entrance, and watch the feeding in the large tank at 10:00.
As soon as the feeding was over, we went to the water observation on the 4th floor, and were lucky to be able to see the whale shark feeding from above. This time, we left to watch the dolphin show from there. After that, we re-entered the entrance and watched the rest of the exhibits, but it was getting quite crowded, so I'm glad we went in the morning.
I think it's most fun to just stare blankly at the whale sharks and manta rays swimming in the large tank. This is my personal opinion, but my child said that DMM Aquarium was more fun. These are personal opinions, so there is no superiority or inferiority between the two, but if you're on a trip, it might be a good idea to go to both and compare them.

We came here from Yaedake Sakuranomori Park at the end of January 2024.
We paid Y 3,300 for 2 adults and a kid.
The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium was located in a huge area. We did not like the dolphin show. It was very disappointing but the rest of the place was very interesting.

The main seawater tank is really impressive and beautiful, with Mantas, Stingrays, Whale Shark, and so many fish from the sea of Okinawa circulating around peacefully. It once had the guiness world record for tge largest aquarium tank. It has lots of other tanks and exhibits. Outside, there is a big pool of sea turtles. Dolphin show is very fun to watch. Above all, the scenery is so beautiful, looking over the ocean. The place was once the site for Expo and the aquarium is part of the larger park, so it is very nice place to go, enjoy and relax.

What is the best/cheapest way to get to Churaumi Aquarium from Naha city or airport?

There is s local bus tgat goes and stop at different stops but it will takes a longtime.
You can take the tour package
We rented a car cos we wanted to go a few places andvthere were 4 of us so sharing cost be cheaper.

I will be on a cruise that docks in Motobu. What is the best way to get to the aquarium from the port?

Google maps states it's a 15 minute drive from the port to the aquarium. If the aquarium is all you're seeking, I'd recommend a taxi. Unfortunately, the information on taxis in motobu is in Japanese. Good luck, it's a great aquarium!

planning a trip to japan
am i able to get to the aquarium easily from Naha or should i go to "motobu" or "nago" and stay the night?
as i understand it, there is a 3 hour trip by bus from naha - is this correct?
any advice on the best way to visit this part of the island would be appreciated.

The are both timely and detailed.
In regards to the rental car, that is not a bad idea - since I am coming from Australia, we drive on the same side!
There is currently a party of 2 or 3.
The primary goal is to get from Naha to the Aquarium.
the pineapple farm was not considered but will be now that you mentioned it.
Since posting, I have done some more research and read on a website (and confirmed by one reply) of a bus that goes Express from Naha to the Aquarium - express 2 hours.
At this point, this seems to be the most cost effective method.
but i will definitely research the car rental.
