Touring around the coast of this area brings you to the quite remote and secluded village of Port Logan. The small harbour is protected by a short stone/rock pier with an unusual comparatively short tower at the end, used originally as a lighthouse. The tower has an open area at the top where I assume the light used to appear. Steps enable you to reach the lower section although there is no access to the top. The steps also provide access to the top of the sea wall, where care is needed when wind is blowing. There is an adjacent area above the beach, with an uneven surface, used as a car park. It is worth a stop to have a look if in the area.

This landmark and the quay it is attached to, were constructed around 1820 largely at the expense of Col Andrew McDowall of Logan. It was described as a light tower with bell-cote roof. Access to the light was originally by ladder, so contrary to my belief when I visited, the stairs haven't collapsed - they didn't exist in the first place.
Nowadays it provides a scenic backdrop to the bay but no longer functions as a lighthouse. It is also quite a good vantage point to get photos of the bay and the village.
Worth a look if you are visiting the area.

It is possible to Kitesurf in this beach. There are rocks so be careful if you are a beginner. Ask the locals on the best wind conditions.

Beautiful place. It's so remote and wild. The lighthouse is really nice (but went during Covid so didn't go in). Slightly scary on the cliff edge when it's windy!

Port Logan has a beautiful bay with a lovely sandy beach. The sand was so smooth and firm and very easy to walk on. Hubby walked to the lighthouse while I relaxed on one of several seats overlooking the bay. A noisy pheasant walking by kept me amused and a garden was imaginatively decorated for Halloween complete with pirate and all his treasure. I can only imagine how fabulous it must be in the summer. We enjoyed a delicious ice-cream from the quaint little van in the car park. A lovely little trip

Second visit...still beautiful, peaceful & unspoiled with fantastic views. Pity about the broken lamppost in the car park, the council should mend it if they care about the place.

What a lovely find Port Logan was on our recent trip to the Mull of Galloway. so much so we made a point of coming back directly to Port Logan when the weather improved.
A real gem of a village, very loving kept tidy and the houses all chocolate box stylesque, simply epitomising the Galloway Peninsula. With unspoilt beach and harbour with its own disused light house Port Logan is a real gem of a visit.
The water was amazingly clear and the brightest blue in the sunshine. The sand was clean and a large expanse ranging form the village up the shoreline to the Logan Fish pond.
Free toilets at the "upper "car park and seasonal refreshments wagon on some days in the "middle" car park.

A lovely part of south west Scotland.the pier was designed byThomas Telford in 1818.
The bay is ideal for swimming and rowing.When we visited it was a massive sun trap.
Whist in this part of Scotland consider a driv down ,pack a picnic and relax

I last visited here over 10 years ago and I really don't think it has changed at all. If you are visiting the fish pond and the botanical gardens, do go visit port Logan and the lighthouse they are very pretty. its a lovely little place just stop and look at the sea and the sky,or the fishing boats in the harbour.

Walking on the beach is just heaven for us, firm sand when tide is out, good for people with back or knee problems, no lumps or bumps !!!!!!!!
