Kinver is a lovely place to walk around. I would highly recommend walking up to the fort and admiring the view which is completely free. As for the rock house unless you are a member of the national trust (in which case it is free) I think the cost is quite high to visit. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable however it is only a short visit to the rock houses themselves in my opinion.

Four of us travelled from Liverpool to have a look at the Rock Houses. You will need full mobility to walk up to the houses. I couldn't imagine people living in these houses, but they did. They are accessible and a friendly guide is ready to tell you all.
Free for National Trust members, but only about £7 entrance fee. No car park, but you can park in front of the site (if you can get a space).
They have on-site facilities and a tea shop. Sadly, no gift shop, but souvenir guide books available.
After we had viewd the houses, we went for a circular walk. Lots of ups and downs, but some fantastic views. We found another house, before ending up on top of the hill fort.
A very good day out, weather behaved too.

What a lovely place to spend a morning. We went to see the houses and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and kind. The Father Christmas and grotto they had was the most magical place and so well done and in keeping with the theme of the house. Just a place filled with a real magic. Well done to all the staff who clearly love their jobs and the place in which they work.

The Rock Houses are undoubtedly the main attraction here & are a short walk uphill from the nearest car park on Compton Road at the base of the Rock Houses. Once up there there are three levels of houses (11 dwellings in total originally I think?) cut into the rock, some fully restored, some just a blank sandstone shell. Amazing that the last occupants only moved out in the 1960s. Went for a walk around Kinver Edge itself afterwards, down & back to the Nanny Rock. A signpost to this would be helpful. The path up to & around the top of the Edge itself is a bit up & down. Toilets are available at the Rock Houses themselves & also in the village of Kinver. The toilets at the NT car park on Kingsford Lane were locked when we tried these so don’t count on them being open.

An interesting place with friendly informative staff. National trust members go in free. Lovely cafe. We also did the 5 mile walk. Fantastic views and some lovely places for a picnic along the way. However some of the banks aren't for the faint hearted. Make sure you have some good walking boots on. Will definitely go back and would recommend.

The guy who gave a talk on the history with personal photos of the place was excellent. I believe he is a direct descendant of the occupiers of the rock houses. Absolutely amazing how these dwellings were constructed and lived in.
A must see for anyone considering a day out in the area. Good cafe and onsite w.c.

We took our 11 year old Granddaughter to the Kinver Rock Houses, it was new to all 3 of us. There were several adults and children of various ages inside the first house, a guide came in, sat down, and told us all about the people, and their lives, who had lived there. The guide was excellent and the children were all as enthralled as the adults. His interaction was to be commended. At the Tea Shop we enjoyed tasty sandwiches before exploring the other house where there were a few old fashioned toys to play with. Down below in the meadow we came across a selection of old fashioned outdoor games and we all had a go. Our Granddaughter learned a lot and enjoyed it all as much as we did. Well done to the National Trust guides and staff.

Have recently become a national trust member and as this is local to me, travelled with the children for a day out. Spent an hour here at the most and half of that was spent having a coffee in the cafe. The staff were late opening but when we did eventually gain access the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The children found the cottages very interesting and enjoyed learning about the families who lived there. But this didn't take long. We paid a visit to the cafe and would defiantly recommend the home made scones which were delicious. We left after an hour but decided to take a walk around the surrounding woods. We took a walk up to the hill fort which I highly recommend but bear in mind it is very steep in parts and hard work but there are plenty of benches around for you to rest your weary legs.

I thinking of going here but I suffer with breathing problems are the paths very steep and is it possible to use a motorbility scooter I can walk but get out of breath that's the reason for the scooter

I apologise for the delay in responding. To be frank, I would not try this location if you have those difficulties. The paths are fairly steep and manoeuvrability isn't going to be good even if you do get to the rock house at the top. I admire the positive thinking of the previous contributors but I am being, I think, more practical.

Hi
Are dogs allowed on the site? If so, are there any restrictions?
Thanks, Jill

Well if you park in front of them its up hill 4-5 minutes walk,on dirt track, approach from right hand side gate which is easier.

there is no wheel chair access as it is up the side of a hill and the last bit has uneven steps
