Had a potter around and some lovely hot drinks at the cafe in the old Forge which also houses one of the old train carriages from Southend Pier. We parked in Leigh on Sea, then crossed the railway bridge and walked along the coastal path to Old Leigh on Sea.

We chose to visit this part of Leigh as it looked quite attractive from the research we had done. We found parking - not too busy at this time of year although there may be an issue in the busier months. There were lots of historic buildings, cafes, pubs and a fresh fish stall giving the wharf area an oldy worldy feel. We had lunch in one of the pubs and enjoyed the service and ambience. Lots of history to explore here.

This reviews the last three occasions we visited,we visit quite alot as it is only forty five miles from our house in North London!
We park,get fish and chips,and then walk along the sea front,at Christmas my elder daughter dipped her feet in the freezing cold sea!

This beautiful little place was always on my places to visit and we visited earlier today.
The place is not very big but is packed full of interesting buildings and places to eat as well as a nice beach at the far end of the town.
The train station is nearby and very handily placed for Leigh on Sea and there are boat trips available on the High street.
It did not take us long but we really enjoyed our hour here and particularly liked the little paths that run along the front overlooking the seafront.
A little beauty!

Something for everyone.
A walk along the Broadway for brunch and window shopping (wife doesn't get that concept though, buys everything)
Out with the boys for burger and beers or down the sea front for when it's sunny.
Lovely little (yes little but still lovely) beach, and walk from old Leigh to chalkwall with the fam and dog is great day spent.
Love it hear. It's a gem

This was our fifth visit this year!It is only forty six miles from our house and it was a lovely sunny October day(it might be the last chance we get this year!).
We got fish and chips,walked,rested and then had afternoon tea,a perfect day out!

Breakfast at Osbourne's,very nice, nice staff, estuary looks great even when tide out, historic, relaxing, plenty places to eat, interesting, so many different walks.

We haven't been here for a few years and we were glad to find it hasn't changed. It still has lovely historic buildings with cafes and interesting shops as well as the sheds selling fish as you head towards the station.

best place to park at old leigh

There is some free parking along main road near train stn,but this gets busy, you can use train stn car park but you have to download an app to pay, plus some pay spaces on road leading down to cockle shed area but again gets very busy, hope you are luck to get a space,

The peter boat lovely fish n chips , but also Oldhams fish bar west cliff on a Monday night they do buy one get one free sit down from 5pm to 7pm lovely

Two way as mentioned and yes it is very narrow okay out of season but if nice still busy at weekends even out of season

November in the UK is cold and typical winter , i would google the weather a week before you travel to the UK

Why on earth would you write such a stupid comment about Old Leigh? It's such a shame that someone still lives in the area and moans about the beer price etc........I suggest you move

been visiting Old Leigh , a favourite of mine for over 50 years . although it is difficult to park there sometimes , it is an excellent quaint place to visit with many attractions and good pubs and good food - especially sea food ! prices of beer might seem steep but it doesn't stop me drinking it ! and I will carry on visiting as usual .

Hello. We will be in London in the first week of January and would love to do a day trip outside London, but still within reach by public transport. Will Leigh be active in January, or will shops, etc...be closed for the winter.

Leigh will certainly be open. Old Leigh might only have a few places open - not sure though.
Train journey from Fenchurch Street Station in London takes approx 50 minutes.
Station at Leigh about 10 minutes walk to Old Leigh - about 15 minutes to Leigh Broadway (shopping area and plenty of small bistro/cafe).

In good weather, (as long as it is not windy and wet), a lovely walk along the footpath at the back of the beach takes 15-20 minutes to Old Leigh from Chalkwell Station. There is a car park
below Chalkwell Station which is at the beginning of the footpath.

Leigh Station has 6 trains an hour on the Fenchurch Street to Southend line (some trains continue to Shoeburyness). It's an excellent service, very reliable and Leigh station is only a short walk to the town. Would strongly recommend going by train to Leigh rather than driving.
