This one was awesomeeeee didn’t look great from outside , but once u go in, it is just a different world . A must go if you visit Badami .. best part is - it is free … if you have swim shorts , you can jump into the pool which looks beautiful.. lots of kids play in this pool and have fun …
I heard there were movies shot in this location . Very photogenic and there were so manyyyyyyyy shiva linga temples inside . It’s amazing to see the history behind this place . They have maintained it well and is very clean … kudos to whoever is managing this place . There are few shops outside for a quick refresher . Overall loved this place .. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Die Tempel stammen aus der Zeit der frühen Chalukya Dynastie der Könige von Badami, datieren also ins 6. und 7. Jahrhundert. Dies belegt auch eine Inschrift an einer Säule auf dem Tempelgelände, die zwischen den Jahren 595 und 602 angebracht wurde.
Die Tempelgruppe von Mahakuta besteht im Wesentlichen aus drei Tempeln, nämlich dem
Sangameshwara Tempel, dem Mahakuteshwara Tempel und dem Mallikarjuna Tempel.
Der Mahakuteshwara Tempel ist der größte der Gruppe und der Einzige, der „restauriert“ wurde. Man erkennt ihn daran, dass die Außenwände weiß übermalt wurden. Stilistisch sind alle Tempel, die überwiegend Gott Shiva geweiht sind, eine Mischung aus Nagarastil, der in Nordindien vorherrscht und dem dravidischem Stil, wie er für Südindien typisch ist.
Direkt angrenzend an den Sangameshwara Tempel ist ein sehr großer Tank, der Vishnu Pushkarni genannt wird und in dem man gegen geringes Entgelt baden darf. Einheimische und Pilger machen davon ausgiebig Gebrauch, was schöne Fotomotive liefert. Die Tempelgruppe wird als Heiligtum genutzt. Hier muss man also die Schuhe ausziehen. ACHTUNG: da der Ablageort der Schuhe nicht bewacht wird, wurden mir hier meine Schuhe gestohlen!

A quaint local temple with an interesting bathing complex where you can watch the locals jump into the bathing ground.

C'est notre guide qui nous a fait découvrir ce groupe de très anciens temples, oubliés des touristes mais pas des pélerins locaux Authentique à souhait !
C'est tout proche de Pattadakal. Et quel bel endroit.
A l'entrée un immense banyan de plusieurs mètres de large, multi-multi centenaire. Impressionnant.
En haut des marches à l'entrée un bassin et un autel de Ganesha. Devant une balançoire à souhait. Chacun tente sa chance. Le but est de lancer la balançoire avec son offrande et de toucher la cloche. Dur dur - C'est la première fois que je voyais cela
Dans l'enceinte, il y a en fait de très nombreux temples grands et petits, tous plus que millénaires et articulés autour d'un bassin. Les gens se baignent, mangent, prient dans un des temples encore en activité, se reposent...
Les temples sont de la même architecture que Aihole et Pattadakal. Certains fort abimés pendant les différentes guerres mais certains ont les premières ébauches de sculptures.
Impressionnant : de magnifiques statues sont à l'abandon car elles sont un peu abimées et donc dé-sacrées. Pour les locaux elles n'ont plus aucune valeur !

Nous y sommes allés à pied depuis Badami avec un guide local Vinodh tel 849 682 8907. Nous avons suivie une ancienne voie pavée reliant Mahakuta à Badami. Superbe balade à faire tôt le matin à cause de la chaleur.

This temple is situated about 30 mins away from badami.The drive is beautiful,along the river with banana and paddy fields.One can spot many birds along the way.
The temple itself is quiet,not too crowded.Many sculptures similar to the badami cave temples are seen here too.There is a water reservoir inside the temple complex and a shivling in its middle.
Worth the visit.

Most of you may not be knowing this place. Their is a road to the left before the Banashankari Temple while coming from Badami. The speciality of this temples pond is, it is builty near the Saraswati river. The flow in the pond is maintained at the same level all the time. It has a small Shivalinga at the side of the pond which needs to be reached by diving inside the stone structure. About 4 persons can stand inside around the Shivalinga in neck deep water. A good swimer can do this. I have visited this place around 25 yrs back when i was a school student. Hope it is intact even now. A small corner of the stone slab covering this Shivalinga is chisled out or broken which gives light inside the water. Anyone going to this place can try it.

Most tourists to this part of India will be aware of Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal, but the whole district is scattered with relics of the Chalukya Dynasty. One of its more esoteric offerings is Mahakuteshwara, which is a group of monuments gathered around an ancient spring. For people- watching, this place is hard to beat. You will find scores of locals leaping off ancient walls and shrines into the lime-green water, all set to the thumping beat of Indian pop.
For the culture vultures, there is a splendid Nandi mandapa with one of the best ancient Nandis in the district. Shivaite shrines and sculptures are also plentiful. Finally, you will often find wedding parties at the site.

Loin des circuits organisés, ce site est agréable par son authenticité. Comme partout en Inde, la religion est au premier plan mais l'atmosphère générale est bon enfant.
