The views were seriously insane. Beautiful mountains in the blue foggy sky in all directions as far as you can see. The fort is beautiful too.

There are few places which defines a benchmark.. This is surely one of those. No matter how many forts you visit , How many trekks you do. Pratapgad will remain a bench mark forever and a Must visit place.
Situated on Poladpur highway from Mahabaleshwar this fort can be easily covered in a day trip along with Shiv Kalin Khedegaon.
Car parking is available at foot hills and Guide is advisable specially if you have children with you. Fort will not take more than three hours and try to visit during Early Morning hours or evening hours.
Must Visit

The Pratapgad Fort is located about 25 Kms away from Mahabaleshwar and takes about 1 hour due as the entire distance is through the Western Ghats. The view during the monsoon is outstanding as number of Waterfalls are born during this time which is a view to behold. However, this area gets huge amount of rainfall and thus the view from the fort will not be visible
There is Parking available at the foothills of the fort and a Toilet a throwaway distance from there. The entry is free but I surely recommend to hire a guide. You can get the service of a guide by paying Rs 300/- and the receipt of it is available beside the parking. Umbrellas are also available for a token amount
The fort is at an elevation of 3500 fts above MSL. The fort was built in 1656. It has a historical significance due to the battle of Afzal Khan and Shivaji which happened at the foothill of the fort and we all know the story of how Shivaji killed Afzal Khan
A 17 Ft bronze statue of Shivaji was unveiled by our First Prime Minister of independent India in 1957. Earlier the soldiers used to access the fort through Tunnel while the staircase was built for the inauguration of the statue by our Prime Minister . There are total of 450 steps to be climbed to reach the summit.
The main fort of Shivaji was the Raigad fort which is visible from this fort located about 70 Kms away. In Monsoon there is absolutely no chance as the entire area gets covered by Cloud.
The fort also has a temple wherein Shivaji was carried in a palanquin as a mark of respect. The walls of the fort were plastered by mixing Honey and Lime and the same technique is followed by the Government to conserve the boundary wall of the fort.

The journey through the fort passing through the steps, view points and temples was awesome. One can imagine how life was during historical times and how thoughtful people were who designed the fort

We visited pratapgadh fort during our panchgani visit and it was fully worth it. You kind of get used to the same scenic beaty in panchgani so something like pratapgadh provides a good change. If you have kids then this will also give you a good history lesson.
Do take a guide who will charge you around 600 rs but will tell you nice stories.
The car reaches till the bottom of the fort and then you have to go up the stairs. The whole visit takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Be ready to climb big stairs !!
Pratapgadh visit was the highlight of our panchgani visit. A must do.

Nice place where you can get to know about history of Maharashra and Shivaji Maharaj. Younger generation learns a lot by visiting such forts. Thanks Maharashtra Tourism for preserving the heritage of Maharashtra.

Only some part of the fort is left. Most of it seems to have got destroyed. Yet it speaks of the glory of Maratha rule/era. The fort as such may not be very attractive. But the view we great from the place is awesome. It's worth spending some time to travel to the fort and take effort in climbing the stairs to see the views of mountains and forests.

Car will go till the entrance to the fort. You will need to climb approx 450 simple pretty easy steps except around 10 which are bit steep, to reach the topmost point where you have the punishment point and the shivaji statue. At around 250 steps you will get the matha mandir.
Is their any Accommodation facility on top of the fort?

sorry there isn't any accomodation on the fort but the road from mahabaleshwar to it has some and very convenient to stay in mahabaleshwar itself.
