‪A really great walk if the full track is open (at 2021 closed because of slips). When we've done the full walk it has been really good, and okay for small children if you take your time and plenty of food and water. Lots of interesting relics, the river, waterfall and tunnels. Fascinating. Allow plenty of time if it is open.‬

‪Closed Ngakawau end due to slip. You can access the bins and old engine, about 10 mins, but that is all from this end now.‬

‪The Charming Creek Railway was a privately owned line which provided transport for the timber milling and coal mining operations in the valley. My plan was to walk from the Ngakawau track end to Watson's Mill, however, on arriving at the car park, I discovered that due to a highly active slip, that section of the Walkway between The Old Bins Site and Mangatini Falls is closed. Nevertheless, the short walk in and out was interesting and enjoyable. ‬

‪Really lovely track and would highly recommend to walk or cycle BUT when we went we could only get so far, perhaps 1km then had to turn around as the track was closed Dec 20/Jan 21 - we shall return though..... small car park but no toilets.‬

‪We tried the Charming creek walkway as a short walkway not so far away from Westport. The trail follows an old railway track for the timber business in the last century. Some of the railway equipment is still there. But the most beautiful award for hiking for one and a half hour one way is the waterfall after walking through a long tunnel carved out of the mountain by loggers a hundred years ago. Flashlight recommeded.‬

‪This is reviewed as one of the best walks in the country, I would have to agree.

Nice easy walking with everything to see, nature, mining, logging with great story boards everywhere.

The bottom end is only accessable to the boxes about 10 minutes in. Rest is closed due to a slip. The top end is a bit of a drive from Seddonville but the road is fine. The mining and milling areas are well preserved with plenty of equipment to see.

We went on a rainy day with no loss of enjoyment.‬

‪This was a fantastic walk of easy gradient. Would also be good to run and in fact we did see someone doing just that. We started at the Seddonville trailhead as there was an alert for a slip at the Ngakawau end. Our only problem was finding it, as didn’t see any signage as we drove into Seddonville. So our advice is to look at a map before you go, turn right when you get to Seddonville and be prepared for quite a long gravel road. Took us 1hr 45 min to get to Mangatini Falls as we did stop to look at things along the way, and only 1 hr 15 back. Two swing bridges, a tunnel, a mossy overhang, mining machinery, peace and quiet.‬

‪This is an easy hike along an old timber/coal railway with plenty of old machinery to see. You cross swing bridges and pass several waterfalls as you pass though mature forest. The second half of the track is in regenerating bush and is flat and not very exciting but there's quite a bit of native birdlife including robins, tomtits and riflemen. Finally you reach a loco in shed and from there it is 15 minutes to the main mine site and the other end of the track. Most people will simply turn around and do it all again on the way back taking 5-6 hours all up depending on how long you stop to view the relics.‬
