The submarine is quite impressive and shows the cramped and challenging conditions. Would have been great to have more information additional to one stand at the entrance.
The cost was 20 euro for a family of 4 and 2euro for the carpark. The minimal charge for the latter entitles one to to 8hrs parking and we did this in less than 45 min! The joys…..

Man kan se, hvor trangt mandskabet lever i en ubåd. Ubåden og især museet kan anbefales for den, der vil prøve at forstå tysk historie. Den tyske flådes historie forklares med mange skibsmodeller. Museet er samtidig et minde over de mange tyske marinesoldater, som omkom på havet.

This is one of only two German World War II U-boats left in Germany (the other is in Bremerhaven). It was built in 1943 as a type VIIc/41 U-boat at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg. At the end of the war, it was surrendered to the British and transferred to the Norwegian Navy. In 1962, it was transferred back to West Germany and, in 1972, it was restored to its wartime appearance as a museum vessel.
Once you purchase your entry token, you proceed through the turnstile and walk through the submarine at your own pace. Depending on how crowded it is, you may need to move along or allow others to move past you.
It has been well-restored and you can experience what it was like to be in such a cramped space. A somber reminder of the senseless death and destruction caused by fascism.

A visit to u995 in laboe is worth the trip altho it will take 2 planes ,2 trains and a bus to get there from the UK!!, well it did me, closest you can get is kiel,be prepared for 12 hours of travel but I have ti say the Saturday at laboe was well worth it,laboe is a lovely seaside town and the naval memorial there too makes the day and the trip all worth it I will definitely go again!

I don't like cramped and spaces in water, however, if visiting Usedom I would recommend going on this tour of the submarine. I have never been on anything like it, it is extremely fascinating for those interested in the WW's and definitely something I won't forget. It is quite an experience to take the same footsteps as those in the past.
Once you have worked out how to get on board (a strange timed turnstyle) you are effectively left to yourself to explore the submarine. Putting yourself in the shoes of those that operated it is quite traumatic, it is cramped and smells strongly of fuel. The submarine was cool when we were there, however, I can imagine it became very hot with all the machinery on.
The main downside of the tour is that all the signs are in German - so take a translation device along if you need one.

Last of the few wolfpack U boats, just sheer emotion walking through her. Looking at the very small Galley, to the oversized torpedoes, the cramped living quarters, the narrow passageways, just can't imagine living on her. A big car park is about 5/7mins walk away.

Begehbares U-Boot aus dem zweiten Weltkrieg. Sehr interessant und gut geeignet, sich einen Eindruck zu verschaffen über die Lebenswirklichkeit der U-Boot-Soldaten.

Wir besichtigten das U Boot 995 zusammen mit dem Marineehrenmal und es gab ein vergünstigtes Kombiticket für 11 € (Stand: August 22)
Am 13. März 1972 wurde U 995 nach Laboe überführt und als technisches Museum am Strand vor dem Marine-Ehrenmal abgesetzt. Das Boot war am 16. September 1943 beim Blohm & Voss in Hamburg in Dienst gestellt worden. Es gehörte zum Typ VII C, von dem bis 1945 insgesamt 693 Einheiten fertiggestellt wurden. Bis zu seiner Außerdienststellung am 8. Mai 1945 im norwegischen Drontheim wurde U 995 vorwiegend im Nordmeer gegen Geleitzüge und auslaufende Konvois und Sicherungsstreitkräfte eingesetzt.
Im Jahre 1947 wurde U 995 zusammen mit zwei weiteren VII- C-Booten von der Königlichen Norwegischen Marine übernommen.
Ab Dezember 1952 fuhr es als „Kaura“ – NATO-Bezeichnung „S-309“ – unter norwegischer Flagge. Mit einer Besatzungsstärke von 45 Mann wurde es in der Küstenverteidigung und als Schulboot eingesetzt und nahm in den folgenden Jahren an zahlreichen NATO-Flottenübungen teil.
1965 beschloß die norwegische Marine, der deutschen Bundesmarine das Boot als Zeichen der Aussöhnung zum Geschenk zu machen.
U 995 wurde im Marinearsenal Kiel in einen zur Besichtigung geeigneten und weitestgehend dem ursprünglichen entsprechenden Zustand gebracht.
Als historisch-technisches Museum soll es dabei keineswegs nur Staunen über die Leistung der Männer wecken, die einst unter qualvoller Enge in seinem Inneren die Schrecken des Krieges erleiden mussten. Es soll vielmehr gerade das Grauen und die Leiden des II. Weltkriegs der heutigen Generation mahnend und abschreckend vor Augen führen.
Ich hatte schon ein mulmiges, ehrfürchtiges Gefühl als ich durch das Boot gegangen bin.

Under normal traffic conditions it takes 2 hours from Hamburg airport. But as I know, there is construction on highwey 7.

Hi, from city center or along Kieler Förde you can take a boat trip to Laboe. The boat stops at several stops and you can get out from Laboe station and go on by foots to this museum to see the U-Boat

Hello! My english husband has wanted to visit this attraction all his life. So my birthdaypresent to him is a trip to Kiel and Hamburg next weekend. We fly from Oslo to Hamburg Friday and need to get from Hamburg to Kiel as quickly and smoothly as possible. Do we take the train fram Hamburg airport into the citycenter and then up to Kiel?
And Saturday morning we want to go from Kiel trainstation up to the uboat, whats the best way?
I'll be greatful for all advice! :)
