The Marine Environment Discovery Centre is a site you won’t want to miss along the Whale Route! You can discover the underwater world of the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park from starfish to the largest marine mammals as you delve deeper into the knowledge of marine life. It is truly an immersion under the water with exhibitions and interpretive activities like the St. Lawrence Live: a lively indoor activity where visitors follow a live dive in the St. Lawrence.
In addition to being an excellent diving destination (my husband dove here over 30 years agar – in winter brr…), the site offers spectacular views of the St. Lawrence estuary. The surrounding area is renowned for beautiful underwater scenery inhabited by brightly coloured organisms. As we were arriving, a group of divers were suiting up to head out for a diving expedition.
Once again, we snagged a couple of Adirondack chairs and were promptly rewarded with a whale sighting. Seals and birds also made an appearance.
It is both a kind of museum and observation centre with explanations about whales and aquatic life with marine biologists on hand to answer questions, or lead discovery activities. Dress warmly, the wind can be bracing.
Hint: If you have paid to get into this site, you are covered for a visit to the Cap-de-Bon-Désir Interpretation and Observation Centre along with the Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Centre for same day visits. That’s three (3) centres for the price of one. Just show your ticket at the entrance booth at each site. At each of these stops, there are marine biologists and naturalists on hand to answer your questions, there are also activities for youngsters to participate in.

Just a great place to relax on the rocks and watch whales. If you want, a staff member of the centre will explain which whales the fin you just saw belongs to. They do events, too: I spent a very interesting hour on the rocks having marine life presented to me from various basins. Also recommend: nordic snorkeling! In July, the water temperature was 2 degrees celsius, so thank goodness for the thick gear you can rent there.

Très belle visite malgré le mauvais temps qui a empêché les plongeurs de nous offrir une visite « live » sous le St-Laurent. À la place, nous avons eu droit à un film très bien fait et commenté sur place par deux jeunes scientifiques. Toutes les questions sont permises! On voit le fond du St-Laurent sous toute sa splendeur et on découvre une flore marine méconnue. Instructif! Le site offre de magnifiques perspectives pour l’observation des cétacés.

Le centre explique à merveille toute la richesse du fleuve et toute son histoire. Les petits vidéo avec les explications sont très appréciés. Il y a une salle de projection, mais la diffusion avait lieu dans l'après-midi et notre horaire ne le permettait pas. Sentier et randonnée sur les rochers à faire absolument, possibilité de voir des baleines. Paysages à couper le souffle. Possibilité de pique-niquer, phare et ses bâtiments, toilettes sur place.

Le cap de bon désir non loin est beaucoup plus beau et voit passer beaucoup plus de baleines et de plus proches. Il doit y avoir des expositions j'imagine mais avec la covid tout est fermé, seulement le sentier extérieur est ouvert mais le prix reste le même...

Avec la pandémie beaucoup d'éléments interactifs du musée ne sont pas en fonction ce qui le rend un peu moins le fun. Le site d'observation est très bien et il est possible de voir des plongeurs à l'oeuvre. L'entrée est gratuite si vous avez payer l'entrée à Cap-du-bon-Desir.

Si vous voulez voir des marsouins, des baleines c’est ici. Le personnel du parc est très bien, nous avons eu toutes les explications nécessaires c’était vraiment très intéressant. C’est un parc à ne pas manquer et je pense un passage obligé si vous voulez voir ces magnifiques cétacés.

Personnel disponible et accueillant nous ont offerts de bons conseils pour planifier notre journée et disponible pour répondre à toutes nos questions portant sur le milieu marins.
Belles expositions et activités lors du festival marin.
Bélugas, baleine, phoques, marsouins aperçus du rivage.

Couplé à la Visite du cap de bon désir, les deux parcs pouvait être visiter le même jour si l'on payait l'entrée dans l'un des deux. Nous avons vu des petits rorquals, des rorquals communs et même bleue au loin avec les jumelles mis à disposition. Les animateurs sont là pour nous guider dans l'observation. Le spot est aménagé et magnigique.. Possibilité de faire de la plongée. Visite de l'exposition attenante. Superbe lieu.

Centre appartenant au Parcs Nationaux Canadien.
Intéressant même si un peu cher à notre avis pour les prestations offertes.
