‪This lovely little Museum is under a significant renovation. Consequently we could not visit which was a pity as it would have added to our understanding of the history of Kilmartin.‬

‪Any visit to Kilmartin Glen should start here at the museum so that you may become oriented to the Glen and its many prehistoric and historic sites and monuments.‬

‪The signs for the museum is probably the first thing you will see from the road into Kilmartin Glen coming from the North. We stopped at the museum and noticed the cairns just right below the hill so thought we were at the right place. We rushed through the Museum due to time constraints but also because I was excited to see the Cairns and standing stones in the area. If we had planned on an entire day in the area then I may have appreciated the museum more. They did give us a nice map of the area. However, somehow I misunderstood the museum employee and believed I needed to hike down the hill from the museum to the cairn, then stay on the path a mile or so to some more cairns and standing stones. It was a long walk through beautiful fields. However, the best part of the walk where the standing stones were was about 1.5 miles from the museum from the trail. However once their I could see a parking lot and realized if we would have continued down the highway another mile or so we could have come to a parking lot for the standing stones and cairns which was better located. So I recommend if you stop at the museum don't go down the trail there, but get back in the car and drive another mile or so south on the right. You will see a turnout for another road and after a quick right see the parking lot for the most standing stones and cairns in the area. I wish the person at the museum would have explained this. Now if I had all day to appreciate the area it might have been good to go back to the museum and appreciate more the items in there.‬

‪Arrived in torrential rain! So we were unable to visit the cairns and stone monuments, however the museum was very informative about life in the Kilmartin area from prehistoric times, Bronze Age, Norse and medieval periods. I found the history of Crannogs on the lochs fascinating, also the stone moulds for casting silver metal working. Never knew about musical stones? The shop is well stocked, we only had coffee & cake in the lovely cafe but the lunches looked delicious. We will have to visit in better weather to fully appreciate the site.‬

‪We really enjoyed our visit the lady on the counter was fantastic and friendly our dogs could go in the shop. Our ticket lasts for 6 months if we happen to be back that way. The kids enjoyed the museum and did the activity book and the hands on things. We followed up with a visit to fort dunadd after.‬

‪My husband and I had been here about ten years ago and it has changed a lot. It is still an excellent museum, but totally different from what I remembered. I actually liked it better this time than the last time. It is quite a small museum but does give you a handy map of the area so that you can visit all the other sites nearby.‬

‪In a beautiful location/building, this interesting and informative museum ticks all the boxes. It gives a real sense of the area and people of the past and overlooks the very atmospheric walk which holds some off the cairns and standing stones of this historic area.‬

‪We visited after enjoying several walks in the local area and were keen to find out more about the rich heritage. We were not dissapointed as there were lots of visual displays and plenty of written information too. Probably not one for younger children although there were one or two interactive elements such as a chance to try grinding some corn into flour. I also liked the outdoor display of herbs used in dyeing, for fibre and for medicine. We topped off our visit with a visit to the lovely cafe.‬

‪We visited here on a rainy afternoon which was a great idea. The exhibition was really interesting and had a lot of information on prehistoric settlements and life in the area. The lady on reception was a bit morbid and had very little conversation. The gentleman in the exhibition was super friendly and was happy to answer any questions. We also ate in the cafe which had some really nice food although the service was a bit slow.‬

‪Great little museum, well worth the price of admission. A really well thought out presentation which engages the viewer. The museum cafe is also a gem and gives you a delightful vista.‬
