‪Glebe cairn is just the start of a row of four - and it is the least interesting. Just a pile of stones really, whereas you can actually clamber into the others. Well worth walking just a couple of Km down the track to the others, taking in Temple Wood and some standing stones as you do.‬

‪Scotland is full of interesting places to discover and this is one of them. Loved the walk from here. Easy paths and clear information board was good. The rest of the stones are more stunning perhaps but still it is a super starting point.‬

‪I made the hike down from the roadside behind the tearoom and museum and on out into the field but only to find that this cairn was not being maintained and that the surrounding field was being allowed to flourish around it and no doubt one day it will not be visible😱
I did have a photo which I deleted ☹️‬

‪I didn't realize that there isn't a path directly down from the museum to this cairn. Here I had bought Sharon Webb's book, "In the Footsteps of Kings," before my trip and had studied the map of Kilmartin Glen. But to get down to this cairn, you either need to start from the south, or loop around much further from the north. Thus, one needs a lot more time to include this area in their visit to the glen, keeping in mind that there are more interesting sites to the south.‬

‪While it may look like a modern pile of rocks, the Glebe Cairn is actually the first piece of ancient history encountered as you leave the Kilmartin Museum. Easily accessed by a trail from the museum, it serves as a nice introduction to the rest of the Glen.‬

‪Start from the museum, you need to get your bearings and the relationship to the other monuments locally. Access is great and you can walk everywhere and there are info boards. Don't just go here visit all of the stones, all different.‬

‪Poor Glebe Cairn used to be the most interesting of all, with entrance hall, stone circle and cists inside. Now it's a heap of grey stones. You can't go inside as you can at some others, but it is still worth a visit and reading about how magnificent it once was.
It is also of course still a vital link in the stunning linear cemetery from the Bronze Age that runs through the valley.
A word to the wise; the field can be very soggy, and there are always cows and sheep and their er waste products about: you can also get a magnificent view of this cairn from the heritage centre cafe whilst having coffee and a delicious cake . . . . and read about it there or in the heritage centre‬

‪We walked down here from the museum and started one of the most wonderful ancient history walks I have been on for a while.
From here you walk along a succession of cairns, standing stones and stone circles
Do be aware there are sheep in this field, so if you are a dog owner, you need to keep your dog under control and not running loose.‬

‪Glebe Cairn is the northern most in a linear cemetery of late Neolithic and Bronze Age cairns. All are worth a visit and the best place to start is Kilmartin House (reviewed seperately). Glebe cairn is really only visible as a large cairn of stones, but front it you can see the next few cairns to the south. There are no facilities (but Kilmartin House is only a 5-10 minute walk) other than the normal (and typically good) summary information board from Historic Scotland. Interesting site if you are into the period and it is an easy hike to the rest of the cairns down the valley.‬
