Attractive little cottage, easy to fimnd and parking directly opposite. Very easy to spend a couple of hours here and the village is also pleasant to stroll around. Volunteers were welcoming, attentive, enthusiastic and a fountain of knowledge about Coleridge and the wider Romantics movement. Earl Grey and home made flapjack went down a treat! Well worth a detour if you are in the area.

It was so good in a simple way. We enjoyed learning about Coleridge and feel that we want to know more about him.
The quill writing was such fun and SO difficult. The small cafe was appreciated. How beautiful the garden looked. Staff/volunteers were very pleasant

A lovely little cottage, full of interesting information about the poet and his friends and family. The garden is great and the small cafe does some good coffee and tea.

The volunteers were exceptional about bringing Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his poetry to life. They clearly had a genuine passion for the subject matter and were keen to communicate it. I had a mobility problem but they were very kind and made allowances for me.
Only downside was the lunch at the tea room as they had run out of cheese scones.

My wife and I became ‘Life Members’ of the National Trust over 40 years ago and always enjoy visiting the many properties and gardens around the country. But oh! How things have gone down hill since those early days… everything dumbed down, many locations becoming a children's playground… too much ‘Woke’ rammed down our throats and very little information to read or room guides that have an in depth knowledge of the property or its history they are representing!
How very different and refreshing it was to visit ‘Coleridge’s Cottage’ last week where my wife and I were greeted and given the most interesting and scholarly introduction to the poets life and home by the guide who greeted us. A truly academic and enthusiastic introduction which fired up our interest in Coleridge and Romantic poetry. Prompting me to make a note of the 2 part biography by Richard Holmes to buy at a later date. It was an absolutely marvellous visit and we learnt so much. This is what the National Trust once was and should be doing now. Please cut out the ‘LGBTQ’ nonsense, retain the integrity of the buildings and those who occupied them and respect the past. The National Trust still couldn’t resist sign writing the walls of this wonderful cottage with phrases that added nothing to our visit… but made it look like a Bistro Pub! No more of this please NT. It’s just not necessary!!!! Please give us more of what it used to be like!!!! Make a note to visit before it’s too late…

We visited here thinking it wouldn't take long to look around, due to it's size...and left nearly 3 hours later. The history of the cottage and Coleridge's association with it were brought to life by the decor and the 3 guides who spoke to us. All were very knowledgeable and entertaining. After a very nice cream tea we spent time in the lovely garden, before trying our hand at writing with a feather quill and ink. So different to the great estate house visits and really enjoyable.

Absolute gem - scent of woodsmoke and jasmine, windblown (opium?) poppies, a sense that the Coleridges have just stepped out. Welcoming and passionate guides - one for writers, poetry lovers and anyone who enjoys a truly atmospheric house in a charming village. Well worth a detour.

Expert guides and added touches - food in the kitchen for example, bring the house to life. Lots of information given and although small - with a visit to the cafe, we spent well over an hour- nearer two, there.
National Trust at its best. Sitting in the autumn sunshine in the garden bower, listening to poetry was just lovely.

A group of 9 older people spent a few hours in the house and garden today. We started with refreshments (tea, coffee, scones etc) and an excellent volunteer (Pat) told us a lot about the house and Coleridge, after which we were given a wonderful guided tour of the cottage by Will (the manager of the property). Both people made the place and its history so interesting. We then spent ages in the lovely wildlife garden, where were able to listen to some of Coleridge's poetry whilst sitting on the benches under the trees.
It is a small property, you can sit down and touch things - no teasels on seats! in fact you are encouraged to be inquisitive and look in drawers and touch things! You can write with a quill pen using ink, there are background sound - a baby crying, Sara singing to her baby, laundry dripping in the kitchen, and lots more little extras.
Will and the team made us all feel really welcome, and I think we left wanting to know more about Coleridge and his poems - I'm sure we will go back, especially if they have special events in the future.

Fabulous! Totally unlike national trust mausoleums.
Start with a really warm welcome (though I hadn’t booked as requested)
Then “do sit down” (there were no “don’t” notices in the place. In fact lots of “have a go”
A warm fire..a real one! Burning in the grate
A custodian who was passionate about his property and very happy to share.
Chairs to sit in
Smell of the fire
Audio on poetry
Books to read
A garden with paths to wander or benches and bowers sit in and just ponder
And quill pens to write with!
And easy parking.
This place is fabulous!
