‪This trek is open year around (except Jan-Feb and monsoons). November and December is off season and its damn cold. But this is the best time for those who love peace and serenity.

Itinerary

Day 1: Catch ordinary bus (9pm) from Delhi to Uttarkashi (reaches 9am) (Rs.600/pp approx)- 12 hrs journey.

Day 2: Visit DFO office (ask anyone) and take permit for Dodital (Rs 10 entry fees/pp and camping charges Rs.50 for two people). From uttarkashi local jeep stand, catch a shared jeep (Rs.40/pp) to Sangamchatti Or Book the whole jeep for Rs.480/- (If u wish not to wait, as the local jeep can even take 3 hrs to fill and accomodate 12 persons)- 16km journey takes approx 1 hr. Get down and start uphill trekking for 3 hrs to reach Agoda village (5km from sangamchatti). There is only a single proper lodge in Agoda to stay or can request locals for a room and food (even better).

Note: 1) Light and mobile signal till this village only.
2) Beware of bear in winters (as they can come down to lower areas). Always walk in group. Talk and make sounds. Don't walk silently.
3) 7am to 4pm is safe time in winters.

Day 3: Get up at 5:30 and see Venus planet in the East (lovely and bright). Get ready and start the trek to dodital- 17km undulating trek takes 6 hrs approx . Stay in the forest rest house/local huts.

Note: 1) Take local guide/porter- mandatory in winters (fear of bear and chilling winter)

Day 4: Start 9 am max for the trek with guide to Darwa Top- 5km takes a total of 5 hrs (3hrs going and 2 hrs coming). Stay in dodital again.

Day 5: Start your trek down till Agoda village after 7am. Stay in Agoda- 4 hrs trek

Note: Shared jeep is available for Uttarkashi at sangamchatti till 2pm only. After that you need to book the jeep (till 5-6pm).

Day 6: Start early morning 7am and reach sangamchatti in 2 hrs. Look for shared jeep to Uttarkashi or ask for lift to any local vehicle going down to uttarkashi. Catch the 12:30pm bus to dehradun (no direct ordinary bus to Delhi). On the way you can see the Bandarpoonch range and other mountain ranges as well (Best view in November). Catch Mussorrie Express back to Delhi.

Note: 1) Local guide is must in winters as they move down and there is nobody in Dodital in winters.
2) Better to have your permit from Uttarkashi. Else the forest people can cause trouble.
3) Carry ample winter clothes and thermus (must have)
4) Carry soup, electral and nuts etc.‬

‪A moderate trek leads us to this wonderful creation of Mother Nature. The fresh water lake is nearly 3000 feet above sea level. One can see the river ASI Ganga emerging out of the lake. It's too beautiful scenery. The way mother nature has painted this site is mesmerizing.‬

‪The scenic beauty here will mesmerize you completely. We took a 30-45 km trek which basically took us 2 days to complete (to and fro)
The hill was steep at some point and trust me it's not for the faint hearted.

Best time to visit would be September- October.‬

‪This is a fairly demanding 2-3 day hike through charming villages along the Assi Ganga. You can stay with villagers, or camp. Much of the road to the trailhead was badly damaged when I was there in 2013, but the trail to the lake is in tact. Villagers used to prevent travelers from going here, because they considered it too holy for mortals to approach. Now they are happy to help.‬
