Almost 2.5 hours of boat safari takes you to different parts of the river adjoining the Nagarhole and Bandipur wildlife sanctuaries. Got see some interesting birds - cormorants, eagles, kingfisher etc....Sightings of monkeys, elaphants and wild boards are pretty regular. If you are lucky might see the predators - tiger, leopard and Indian wild dogs

We did coracal ride in thie river and it was full of water even in Oct which was great thing to see. The forest and vegetation around it contain diverse types of flora and fauna.

Well worth taking the trip to see the reservoir and the trip scenery fabulous . take your camera it will be worth it

As a typical bangalorean, it is hard to find a place that is quite and serene. This is one such place. If lucky you can spot crocodiles, however there is plenty of birdwatching opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts

Myself and my wife decided to visit Nagar Hole forest . We started from Mysore city and kabini backwater is vey near to this forest. It is around 2 hours journey from Mysore city by car. Kabini River Backwater is very wide and very peaceful. You can enjoy the river view and charmed your eyes.

river runs from Kerela to Karnataka to Kaveri in Tamil Nadu. when in summer there is no flow a plethora of wildlife moves across from one sanctuary to another, making for best sightings of wildlife in the dry months

We were able to spot a huge tusker, variety of birds, and Crocodiles among others. Its is a peaceful lake and the boat ride around was really nice

We decided to visit Kurvadweep which is around Kabini river. The river is muddy and bamboo baoting is done in kurvadweep in same river. Being in Kurvadweep you can see Kabini river.

We all chose to go on the river safari.
We reached the Kabini river lodge at 2.30 pm after a 2 hours drive from Mysore.
We were group of 6. We paid Rs 1800 per head and got into the boat . The boat left at 3.30 pm with 12 people.
For the first 20 minutes we passed some village area. There after we entered the Nagarhole forest area. Except for some birds , 2 Sambhar deer , a few spotted deer , 3 peacocks and one crocodile , it was an eventless journey. The guide cum motor boat driver followed his routine by taking us around the river showing us both the expanse of Nagarhole and Bandipur sanctuaries.
It was the most disappointing boat ride of my life.
The guide told us that this is not the season for animal watching as the water holes are full of water . It is only in summer , the animals come to the river for water.
Except for the boat ride in the Kabini river, it was a sheer waste of time and money.

The river was high, so harder to see any animals, but we did manage to see elephants on the edge. Beautiful sunsets over the river.

Boat safari is very costly (Rs 1,800 or so per person, particularly outsiders).
as Rightly told by Longjohns, once you stay in a Kabani Resort / Lodge / Hotel, then it will be easy for you & cost effective.

Is Kabini river part of Karnataka or kerala (If kerala, should we pay entry tax??) ?? We are planning to go to Nagarhole National Park after this, so what can we expect to witness near kabini river ??

Is there any rafting in the kabini river? I found couple of articles about rafting organised by Govt. Is that true?

its just a basic river crossing bamboo raft on ropes at kuruva islands. for river rafting try nisargadama near coorg.
