This a very old Jain temple which belongs to 13th century. Now there is no complete structure, only ruins are present. Nice place to visit.

The 13th century Jain temple with its Dravidian style architecture, beams and pillars carved out of stones, stone slab roof is of much heritage value. The carvings/engravings on the doors and walls though the temple is almost in ruined condition will attract anyone even if you are not interested in studying history. The temple is believed to be used by Tippu Sultan as his ammunition store. Dedicated to Jain Tirthankar the temple is also named Ananthantha Swami Temple. Now this serene place is under the Archeological department and they have managed to maintain it properly with grass walkways and gardens. We were rather confused regarding the history of the temple and a native of Kalpetta explained the details.

. Great TOURIST ATTRACTION to be brought to more to the public!
.. Heart breaking to see the present "RUINED" condition ..!!!
.. But go through the details, with a local, knowledgeable (Elderly man), we will be excited with the HISTORY of the PAST!
.. Each Pillar, wall, etc. has many epics to tell!!
.. Note the wall engravings.
.. There are many research papers, including details in internet

The temple Architecture is influenced by the traditional Dravidian style with Beautiful carvings on the entrance doors. It is mainly a 13th century temple that features a raised platform made of granite and carved square pillars that hold the stone slab roof.

Since we noticed its on the way to Kuruvadweep from Edakkal Cave .... we visited this ruins.....its totally isolated place where no-one to guide you...just a board from Archaeological survey of India saying " Protected Monument -whoever destroys, removes, injures, alters, defaces, imperils or misuses this monument shalle be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to 2yrs or fine of 1 lakh INR...or both "....Seeing this Board , the ruins & its maintenance you do feel wonder /laugh..!!....
It may or may not be a hidden gem....I feel just a Ruins in Rock with few carvings,Creepers in the coffee plantation..If some one there to guide you -its importance ,what is this carvings for,how can one identify Jain temple & all ..it may be another experience......I even saw something similar to this ruins while going from this location to Kuruvadweep...Thank God -there was no boards from Archaeological department for it....
But I really wonder how Jain settlement happened in Wayanad,Kerala years ago. Whats the story behind it!!

There is not a lot to see apart from the temple columns, but they are carved beautifully, and the whole place is very well looked after

The drive from Olives resort was really a soothing one with lovely houses and lush greenery on both sides of the road.
We began the day with a stop at the Ananthaswamy Jain temple at puliyarmala along with a visit to the Gandhi museum next to it. The temple housing the deities of Mahavir Jain, Maha Vishnu and Nag Devta was simple but the atmosphere was tranquil and filled with reverence.
We were told that the temple was originally situated at present day Kalpetta, known earlier as Kalpavathy. But Mandappa Gowder, who later took over the management of the temple, shifted it to the beautiful hillock, Puliyar Mala in 1931.
Next we headed out through the serpentine asphalted roads to our destination Punchavayal. The folks on the way were only too pleased to provide us the right directions.
The ruins of the ancient Janardhana and Vishnu temples at Punchavayal, near Panamaram, in Wayanad are national monuments.
A part of the ‘gopuram’ of the temple lies on the grass and sculptures on the stone walls lie destroyed having suffered the earth of the destroyers centuries back but now suffering ravages of time.
Nearly 325 carvings on the huge stone pillars have survived the passage of time. Sculptures, stone edicts in old Kannada script, figures of Jain deities and sculptures of the ‘Dashavathara’ still stand. The stone carvings on the now standing depleted roof is a proof of the intricate prowess of the design and skill of yore
There are intricate and elaborate carvings on the pillars remain in dipleated state due to long years of neglect.
The distinct style of the sculptures and a stone edict on a wall of the in old Kannada script show these temples may have been built during the reign of the Hoysala or the Vijayanagara dynasties in the Deccan plateau from the 12th to the 14th centuries.
The monument has typical Jain Architectural and sculptural features like the floral designs, Naga images, and Vyali mugam steps, Pillared Mandapas and fish images or those of the Minanathar.
The sanctum santorum was dark and we decided not to venture in despite the deplorable conditions just to respect the disfigured deity lying on the grass inside. I
We left this beautiful temple ruins with a heavy heart hoping some action by Archological survey of India in maintaining the site with a bit more of responsibility and empathy.
