Visited this temple in October 2022, on Amavasya. Very beautiful and ancient temple. The ride from Vythiri is about 2 hours and trough forest areas surrounded by mountains. Both the ride and the temple location is very scenic. Get good prasadam at temple but on communal steel plates - would encourage other visitors to get their own plates. Behind the temple is the river Papasani which was very cool and pleasant. All in all, a serene and spritual experience. Must visit for anyone in the vicinity.

The temple is totally hidden behind a metal fence.
As it forbidden for non-Hindu to enter you can see really nothing except some old pillars.

Ce temple tout en pierre mérite un petit détour.
Très vieux, il offre quelques belles sculptures qui viennent de loin et prêtent à la réflexion. Très sympa.

The location is amazing. You can drive all the up the mountain in your vehicle and park it in a secure parking lot.
Climb up a few stairs and soak in the views of lush green forests and holy hills. Highly recommended for anyone who would like to get a taste of ancient south Indian temple building, culture and myths.

To begin with this is a really really ancient temple located in the brahmagiri range bordering Karnataka.
The exact date of foundation is unknown but what's known is that this place is known as the Kashi of the south.
People come here to wash their sins away ,and be close to the Divine.
Temple timings are morning till 12pm and evening 5.30-8pm.
The temple has old architecture and the vibes feel so good here.
I personally felt so uplifted out here ,surely something divine and positive .
PS: people other then Hindu faith are not allowed inside the temple However they are free to enjoy the premises .
There is lots of shopping around the temple footsteps
I picked up some tea, ayurvedic herbs, honey ,soaps and what not for good price and premium quality (first shop down the steps)
The ride to the temple is amazing and from a forest zones , chances of spotting the wild is very very high .
Also recommended to travel in Your own transportation, as public transport in this side of the state is dull
My humble request is to visit this place and feel good ;)

We visited Thirunelli temple on a friends suggestion. The place was extremely serene and relaxing. The view of the tall mountains behind made us realize how small we are compared to nature. The fact that you can drive almost to the foot hills of the temple was a big advantage for elder people.v

Yes it is. You can have a joyful ride especially in this season (Sep). Beware of animals!

Morning or afternoon. Plan your return before it gets dark as it is far from main city and kind of forest area.

There is a ktdc tourist lodge too in a very nice location, but not within walking distance of the temple. If you are travelling by public transport, the best way is to stay in guesthouses outside temple.

Hello friends
We are planning a trip here in early September. Please tell me the condition of the roads here, especially the drive to where the temple is. We will be coming from Coorg side.

Hi, from Coorg, you will go via Kutta and Tholpetty to reach Tirunelli temple. If you are going there to do any particular 'karma', you will need to be there early in the morning. As others have mentioned, there will be elephants on the road after dark. You can stay at the Jungle Retreat which is just 6 km away Tirunelli and visit the temple early morning. The Jungle Retreat is also a great place if you want to have feel of staying in the jungle. All the best :)
