‪What a joy to visit‬
يونيو 2019
‪This was another surprise place that exceeded our expectations. We were able to park in the small carpark opposite and were warmly greeted. We were given the most expansive tour of the Corn Mill with plenty of time to take photographs and take in all the details. This is still a working mill but they aren't allowed to sell the flour, so it goes to a local bakery and the products are donated to charity. This is a unique mill in that the living accommodation was built in the original construction and given the high risk of combustion they had to install a fire wall. Probably not suitable for those less mobile visitors as there are quite a few stairs to climb. There is a small gift shop on the ground floor. We can highly recommend this place to fellow travellers.‬

‪Great interesting working mill. Fabulous introductory video - informative but not too long. Plenty to see here; lovely helpful staff. Operation depends on the availability of water in the millpond, of course. Do wander up to the millpond. This is a lovely little area‬

‪Fascinating working water mill in beautiful surroundings‬
يوليو 2019
‪We much enjoyed our visit, especially thanks to a really friendly and helpful custodian who went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that our daughter (in a wheelchair) could get into the ground floor of the mill house so she could enjoy the experience too. He was also very knowledgeable and although the mill wheel wasn't turning when we visited, we could get a very good feel for what it must have been like. Would thoroughly recommend a visit here.‬

‪... if you are touring around Dumfries the Corn Mill is a great place to pop in for a slice of history. Sweetheart Abbey is close by.
Interactive stuff and plenty of information to take in of a piece of yesteryear.
Worth an hour of anyones day.‬

‪Great Tour‬

‪I didn't know what to expect from my visit here to New Abbey Corn Mill. I was surprised to be given a tour of the mill but it really made the experience. The passion of the guide and the history she was able to impart was very informative and engaging. The little garden with the stream and the mill wheel was a highlight as well as being able to see all the machinery. A very enjoyable visit.‬

‪Although the mill wasn't in operation when we visited mid week , the custodian gave us a very good description / tour , so we felt as if it was working . A compact building , with a good car park . ‬

‪A fascinating visit to a working mill‬

‪I've visited New Abbey many times but this is the first time we've been to the mill. It's well worth the entry fees. The tour starts with a 12 minute audio then a visit to the water wheel powering the mill. Whilst those working there do try to mill twice a day, the stones weren't grinding when we were there. A guide escorted us to the main workings of the mill then we climbed two flights of stairs to the top of the mill. There are information boards to explain how the different parts of the mill. There is also a quiz for children of all ages - and of course we had a go. There's a little shop which sells the usual calendars, cuddly Highland cattle etc and ground oatmeal. Well worth a visit. Car parking is just across the lane from the mill.‬

‪Great example of working history ‬
بمفردك • مايو 2019
‪Visited here almost as a filler for my day, it turned out to be one of the highlights! The corn mill has a small car park, there’s a much bigger one a few minutes walk away by Sweetheart Abbey at the other end of the village. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable, there are displays and a short video about the milling process which can be viewed in an upstairs room. Then the staff guide you to the main working area of the mill. Here over three floors are the full workings of this historic mill. There is plenty of information to explain what you are viewing. At last I know what the other use of a curling stone is! After finishing my tour, and getting ready to depart I was informed that the mill would be working shortly, and they would wait if I wanted to return! Not often you get a generous offer like that, so in due course I settled in the pretty garden where the water wheel is located. Once this was underway we proceeded to the mill proper where it was great to see the mill in operation. The guide explained what was happening, and demonstrated the sack lift. This museum seems under visited, which is a shame as there is a lot of working history here to enjoy. ‬

‪Good example of how mills worked‬

‪Very close to Sweetheart Abbey, the Corn Mill survived in a state of neglect although not disuse. It has been revived and renovated by the National Trust into a fascinating historical building staffed by enthusiastic volunteers.
A must-see if in the area. ‬

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us this kind review. We just wanted to mention that New Abbey Corn Mill is cared for by Historic Environment Scotland and not the National Trust though, and therefore only Historic Scotland members are granted free entry. Thank you again for your kind comments!
