The captivating beauty of the Nubra Valley unfolds just beyond Khardung La pass, treating travelers to a breathtaking panorama typical of Ladakh's charm. This valley is a mosaic of natural wonders, featuring the confluence of the Shyok and Siachen Rivers, white sand deserts, the unique sight of double-humped camels, verdant and prosperous villages, glistening streams, and rugged mountain peaks.
Adding to the allure of the landscape is the Diskit Monastery, a cultural gem that beckons visitors with its spiritual ambiance and architectural splendor. For those seeking to explore more, Turtuk village is an accessible destination from the Nubra Valley, offering a glimpse into the local way of life.
The valley is dotted with many cottages, providing a comfortable and scenic retreat for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the serenity of this extraordinary region. The Nubra Valley stands as a testament to Ladakh's natural diversity, offering a truly unforgettable experience for those who venture into its picturesque landscapes.

It's a fantastic place. It's a half-day trip from Leh and lower in altitude, so it was a chance for me to catch up with proper sleep which was elusive in the high-altitude city. There were a lot of activities to enjoy, but I only went to the Diskit monastery and the dunes. I tried counting the prayer wheels around the sanctuary's Maitreya Buddha statue but lost track of my starting point, so I gave up. The statue and the monastery are huge, so it would take an hour to explore both. They also offer tea for guests. Seeing how the monastery was built in a precarious area is fascinating. My first thought was, what if there is an earthquake? In Hunder, I enjoyed and highly endorsed riding the Bactrian camels. I almost fell but managed to get a grip. The camels respond to the weight and stand once they feel something on their back. Being so high and just holding on to a rope was also scary but exciting at the same time. Most of the people in my group were screaming along with the movement of the camel; however, it's better to relax and enjoy the ride. I also had fun trying on archery near the camel riding area. Aside from those, the valley offers ATV riding, river rafting, and zipline.

You get a breathtaking view of the valley from the road before you actually reach the valley. From the sand dunes you can get a 360 degree view of the surrounding majestic mountains. You can travel to Turtuk village and Thang, the last village before Pakistan border from here. You may stay in Hunder, or Diskit, the head quarter of Nubra subdivision. Diskit monastery is another tourist attraction.

To be honest, the travel from Leh to Nubra is long and many a places with bad roads. But if you would like to travel along the valley and feel the nature, this trip is for you.
What you get there?
1. Sand Dunes
2. Double humped camel (you can ride them for 350/- Rs.)
3. ATV circuit
4. Highest altitude wise, zipline.
5. Disket Monestry.
For me, sand dunes, double humped camel ride was though exciting but not worth close to 200 km of travel from Leh.

Riding camels through white sand cold ssnddunes is an ultimate thrilling fun experience in the cold desert at12000 feet of height. At this place Central Asian Camel Safari, the timings are 9 to 12 noon& 3to6pm.The joyful ride costs now Rs350for one person on one Camelot about 20minutes.For bigners ride precautions are necessary.Initially rider should take careful rest between two humps on the sitting camel onground.A piece of soft seat (folded blanket)is provided for comfortable rest.Just like riding on a motor bike ,take a seat fro one side by using one leg putting otherwise.Hold the strips, not so tightly, for balance.Normally 8-10 camels with riders are grouped and driven by a single trainer. The camelman gives a signal by touching the neck to camel to standup or sit-down.These are crucial precautionary times for setting up and balancing the rider. In my view, when camel stand-up,the body of the ridershould synchronized and be tilted forward, while the camel sits down, the body of the rider should be little forwarded for better balance..Both the legs of the rider should be adhered with the tummy region of camel, so that perfect balance is matained. Please do not try to take a selfie while sitting or standing up the camel. Always avoid drinking water or eating while the camel is moving. Breath normally, be relaxed, even normal ride conditions. The rider normally gets sweating because we are not professionally trained. Donot loosen the grip of strips.Donot give signals by your legs to the camel. Before start, can establish a love with the love touch to the camel. Camels have a natural coat of thick hair.

Hello. I am planning to visit Nubra valley around the last week of July for stargazing
. I am also planning to visit Leh and other nearby areas. My question: Is the terrain/flora/fauna going to look very similar everywhere (the cold dry desert with snow capped mountains in the horizon)? Is there any place near nubra that makes sense traveling to, that also looks significantly different? I would assume that nanda Devi national park would be one such place, however that would be too far.

Ladakh is entirely different from other Himalayan region. Moon land Ladakh is land of passes.Nubra valley Ladakh is different from other region of cold desert Ladakh carved by river Shyok & river Siachin/ Nubra,Famous for sand dunes, double hump camel, Diskit monastery, Maitreyee Buddha, Sumur Monastery. Do visit up to border of Pok (village Turtuk).

You can start at 7.30am from Leh, in one an hour you will reach Khardung La pass. Which is highest motorable road in world at 18000 plus Ft.
I went with 2 years kid so not to worry.
Nubra is amazing place, you can stay in tents. Many options available.
