We briefly visited to see Winston Churchill's grave. The graveyard was beautifully kept and from the outside the church looked wonderful

After a day spent at Belenheim Palace we decided to walk through the palace grounds to Baldon to visit this church to see Sir Winston Churchill's grave, having seen his birth place in the palace. The walk took less than 20 minutes, and given the lack of parking in the village this is probably a good option if you are able to walk. The graveyard was peaceful and Churchill's grave was easy to find. It was interesting to see other members of the Churchill family also laid to rest there. We sadly didn't have time to go inside the church but there was a sign for a Churchill exhibition that may be interesting for those visiting. Well worth a visit.

We very much wanted to visit Winston Churchill’s grave. We were surprised and moved to see the family tombs. A pretty churchyard in a lovely location.
Our advice would be to park a little way from the church and walk to it. Bladon is very picturesque but parking in that area is limited.

A place to visit if you have a desire to pay your respects to a great man, probably flawed in the eyes of many but a man of his time, who delivered our beautiful island from the jaws of a monster. At great cost to many unknown families whose stories we will never know, but we are able to live a relatively free life because of his belief in our great arm forces and our great nations people.

No visit to Blenheim Palace is complete without a visit to the family grave of the Churchill’s.
Well kept plot in this quiet corner of the county. No wonder these chose St Martin’s as their final resting place.

This is well worth a visit
It’s a lovely church and to go and see the resting place of Winston Churchill was amazing.
Also the rest of his family are also buried there.
Parking at the church is very limited so would recommend parking on the main road and walk up.

The church located near the Blenheim Palace, the Sir Winston Churchill birthplace, in the cosy village of Bladon.
Sir Winston Churchill and his family's burial place.
It worth to take a short walk from BLENHEIM PALACE to pay your respect to one of the greatest Englishmen in British History
There is parking for a few cars in front of the church entrance

As we were visiting Blenheim Palace, it was a no-brainer that we should go and visit the church and graveyard at St Martins, Bladon where Winston Churchill and his family are buried. The church itself is in a beautiful picturesque village setting, albeit with very limited parking. I do feel sorry for the locals as they must get a constant flow of visitors to the church. We actually went inside the church and an organist was playing the organ. There were information leaflets inside the church and one detailed the stained glass window that was put in featuring Winston Churchill himself. There were other postcards, as well as booklets and CDs to purchase.
The Churchill grave site is beautifully well kept, although it is a shame that Churchill's original gravestone is no longer there as it was taken down and replaced due to many visitors touching it and consequently wearing it away. The current headstone is tasteful, albeit slightly more modernistic compared to the other family graves. It is a peaceful and tranquil resting place for the greatest Prime Minister of all time. On the Church website they suggest it is a tranquil walk from Blenheim Palace but after a few hours visiting the palace itself, we felt it was more restful to go in the car.

During our visit to Blenheim, St Martins got a mention in the commentary, so we thought we really must make the effort to visit whilst over that way. Just can’t believe how quiet and peaceful it was and that we could stand right next to Churchill’s burial place with absolutely no crowds! The two recent stained glass windows in the church should be admired and try to intensify all the small items around the outer window.
Really pleased that we spent time to pay our respects to this great man.

Located in the sleepy village of Bladon. Visit Sir Winston Churchill’s grave and look at the small Churchill exhibit inside the church. Well worth the visit.

How do we get to Bladon from London Waterloo Station?

You'd need to take the London Underground from Waterloo to Paddington station and then get an overland train towards Oxford. A few miles north of Oxford is Hanborough which is just over one mile from Bladon so a local taxi will get you there.
