Feel the heat emanating from the earth as you walk along designated paths. Keep in mind there's no bathing allowed in the Thermal Valley itself. If you're looking to soak in the hot springs, head to a nearby public bathhouse or resort.

I recommend not skipping a visit to this area, which can be reached by taking the red metro from the center (then you have to change to another line specifically for here).
Here you will find Japanese-style museum buildings. I recommend not stopping only at the thermal valley but also walking around the sulphurous area a little further north (since it is uphill, go up by bus and then walk backwards) along this route there is also a small swimming pool shallow water where everyone can enter with their feet.

This is a must-go place. As I have no idea what i am going to see at the thermal valley, i almost give up halfway, the walk up to reach thermal valley was moderately uphill. But as soon as i see the valley, I am glad i made it!!

The hike from MRT was not difficult. Just use google maps and it’ll get you there. Very cool place and local food adds charm. It’s a nice spot to go as you don’t typically see this anywhere.

Lovely visit up to thermal valley. Well signposted and plenty of things to look at on the way. Nice little gift shop by water had lovely ice lollies

Very interesting location but I would not recommend going in the summer because its scorching hot! Perhaps winter would be a better period to visit. There are some dainty food shops around the place as well.

We went there on a Tuesday so there were only a few people around. It's something that you usually don't see, a natural phenomenon which makes you appreciate again the awesomeness of mother earth. Thermal valley is just a short walk from the MRT station. We walk through the park and you can also pass by the public library. We spent around two hours enjoying the area, then proceeded to Tamsui, just in time to enjoy the sunset and walk through Tamsui old street. Both areas can be access through the MRT red line.

北投公園をぬけて少し坂を登って行くと、地熱谷にたどり着きます。
北投温泉の源の一つで、一年中硫黄の煙が立ちこめています。
地熱谷は、恐ろしい地獄を思わせるため、別名「地獄谷」や「鬼の湖」とも称されています。
またエメラルドグリーンであることから「玉泉谷」とも呼ばれています。
硫黄の煙が充満する風景はまさに仙境のようでした。
地熱谷の岩石には放射性元素の「ラジウム」が含まれており、「北投石(ほくとうせき）」と言われいます。世界に数千種類ある鉱石の中で唯一台湾の地名が付けられた鉱石との事です。
今のところこの鉱石は、台湾の北投と、日本の有名な秋田県玉川温泉にだけ存在しています。
そう言えば、以前に台湾を訪れたい知人が、エライ高い北投石のブレスレットだかネックレスを買ったと見せてくれた事を思い出しました。何かの効能はあったのだろうか？！
なお、地熱谷の湯は、80〜100度なので、入れませんが、近くに「北投親水公園露天温泉浴池」と言う100年以上の歴史があるレトロな浴場があり、古き良き温泉体験ができます。(水着着用。以前入ったので、今回は入らず。)

We came here in 2012 and did not get a chance to enter the valley to experience the mist and heat as it closes at 5pm. So make sure you plan and arrive during the opening hours.
Of course, if you are too late it's alright as there are other attractions within the vicinity of Beitou Park. This time as we were staying in the vicinity we made it!
The valley is a short walk from Beitou hot spring museum and about 15 minutes walk from Xinbeitou Subway Station. However, we walked from our hotel, The Gaia Hotel (Beitou), and got a little lost following google maps.
The temperature at the Beitou Thermal Valley is very hot and steamy, with a strong odor of sulfur permeating throughout the air. The water in the valley is hot enough to boil an egg (water temperature ranges from 80-100℃)!
The valley is full of mist and steam, so if you are looking for some photo taking, this would be the spot... if you can tolerate the heat.
There's a quaint little gift shop at the entrance selling hot springs themed merchandise. They sell handmade soap made out of the hot sprint water, and make lovely souvenirs or gifts.

It is not too far from MRT. It is free you walk on well paved road the see the white steaming smoke with strong sulphur smell all the way. The water temperature is high enough to cook eggs, that is what people says. But, we did not see anyone cooking eggs. Maybe eggs are too expensive nowaday.

May I know what is their phone number and do we need to make a reservation?

It's a district - there's no telephone number as far as I know from my last visit. I trust, the cheap unisex public one - no need reservation but the rest of the area the thermal onsens are offered in the hotels in the area, you can try to google one of the resort to check.
Gentle reminders: those onsens are male - female separated and you need to be totally naked to use the facilities - please check before you enter or pay your fee that the facilities require bathing wear or else. Some place also doesn't provide towels better to carry one with you or prepare to pay for rental or purchase a few.
