After having a wonderful time in Shifen, you can proceed to Pingxi Old Street.
How to get here:
- You can ride a train ride from Shifen Old Street Station to Pingxi Old Street Station.
Pingxi is famous as well for flying lantern activities. You can walk around to try local food, buy souvenir or take some photos.
I've noticed that the lantern activities are more expensive here but their souvenir shops look more promising!

We did Pingxi and Shifen as a day trip from Taipei. They’re similar but you might as well do both. Pingxi is the quieter of the 2. You can launch a good-luck lantern from either. Shifen has more food choices. But at Pingxi you get a money-back guarantee that your wish will come true. Or was that at Shifen??? Before you head back to Taipei, the night market in Keelung is a good choice for dinner.

This review is for the lanterns at this train station. Such a unique experience. A lot of people get off the train at Shifen Old St. It’s super crowded and filled with a ton of tourists. If your goal is to set a lantern then stay on the train 3 more stops and go here. No crowds and quite sleepy BUT great for launching a lantern. We set off a lantern for a whopping $5.50 USD! You can get a very large lantern right at the rail track at any of the stalls and they will provide the ink for you to write your wishes. The lanterns have 4 sides. Once you are done they will light it for you and take a ton of pictures. What a great experience!

のんびりゆっくりと、周りの景色をみながら途中
電車内から十分滝も見ることができます。きれいな電車ではありませんがノスタルジーを感じます。

Anda harus mengunjungi disini kerana suasana amat tenang, makanan yang dijual pun lezat dan gurih, berdekatan sungai yang indah, banguanan memiliki sejarah yang lama.

Pingxi old street here is smaller than shifen or jiufen old street. The crowd also very little compare to other old streets. However many shops are not opened during weekdays

老街を抜けた先にある駅です。レトロな車両がとても似合います。線路で天燈を上げることも出来ます。行ったときはそれほど人が多くなかったのでゆっくり周辺を散策することが出来ました。

You can release balloons here too, and it's a quieter alternative to Shifen Old Street - less tourists. Small and quirky shops.

I wanted to do something meaningful on my birthday so I decided to take a trip to Taipei to make a wish,( not upon a star!) but way up to heaven via a sky lantern at the Pingxi railroad station. Though it was raining, the storekeeper managed to time the release of our lantern in between the heavy downpour. My wishes have long lingered in my heart and it was a relief to write them down and send them up, up in the sky with the intention of reaching the heaven for its blessing! I went on a tour group and everyone was excited and we had photos and videos to capture the event. It was exhilarating and an experience that I will truly treasure. I believe that wishes do come true if you set your heart and mind to it ...especially when done on one's birthday!
