Whilst not as modern as many station in a Taiwan- the signage and traffic flow works- staff helpful- really wierd that it is a 40 minute BUS ride to the HSR station making only a 20 min benefit and a huge extra cost - so take a normal train

台鉄の嘉義駅は前駅と後ろ駅に分かれています。台北から新幹線で高鉄嘉義駅に着き、無料のBTRに乗るとバスは後ろ駅前に停まります。嘉義市内は前駅側にあるので線路を跨いだ橋を渡って前駅に移動することになります。
2023年6月は、この橋を渡るために後ろ駅の改札から入場して橋を渡り、前駅の改札から出ることになり、入場改札で番号札をもらって出口改札で番号札を返却するシステムでした。ただこの専用改札はとても緩い良い感じでした。
駅舎もホームもレトロでのんびりしてる雰囲気が本当に素敵です。前駅を出るとタクシーの呼び込みが賑やかなのがご愛嬌かな。

The Chaiyi railway station has a good range of facilities and I used it traveling down from Taipei bound (ultimately) for Kaohsiung. The HSR station is some distance away, So this station is just for local trains and Puyuma limited expresses. There are many local (all stops) trains and they can go for quite a distance (well beyond Kaohsiung). It is also the terminus for the Alishan Forest Railway (which has its own ticket office just outside the main entrance). The Alishan railway has a dock platform off the main platform. There is a convenience store on the station as well as a tourist information office. There is work underway out front where the buses would be. Inside the station there is a sign showing the buses that call here and how to get to the HSR station.

been to a few of these stations now this one is not spectacular.. kinda a run of the mill train station little older .. a good powerwashing would really brighten it up

台鐵嘉義站是嘉義市區交通樞紐，車站建築於1933年啟用，至今已逾80年，車站頂端懸掛著與建築風格不相襯的白底藍字站名大燈箱，一整排輕鋼架遮雨棚幾乎遮住半個車站建築。由於嘉義市區台鐵路段正進行高架化工程，嘉義車站也將改為高架車站，目前的嘉義車站內顯得陰暗老舊。嘉義後火車站已改建為轉運站，供國道客運與高鐵快捷公車停靠；嘉義市區公車與前往阿里山等嘉義縣境客運則停靠前站廣場路邊站牌。

This is the railway station where we got off our train from Taichung. It is fairly small and the staff at the visitor centre here was quite helpful with our enquiries regarding Alishan mountain. We stopped at Chiayi for 1 night, initially wanting to visit Alishan, but changed our mind as time was too short. The station itself was rather small and quaint and location was central. We stayed just a few minutes from the station.

說嘉義車站是古蹟，但明顯欠缺整理，很多地方施工中，雜物、鐵皮加蓋，讓整座建築有一種混亂感，裡面就算白天也十分陰暗，就跟我這次看的另一個老車站集集一樣，只有失望而已，車站裡外還有乞討的流浪漢，以一個城市的玄關來說這是不合格的，走出站外，果然毫無意外的，迎接我的是台灣特有的破落街景，鐵皮加蓋、鐵窗、亂停汽機車還有像廢墟一樣的建築，讓我對嘉義第一印象很差，只能說，這地方絕對稱不上是「觀光景點」，他是一個會讓台灣人感到羞恥的地方，我們的地方城市玄關如此醜陋。

嘉義車站整頓後乾淨、有秩序。停車汽車與機車很有規則擺放，旁邊又有3家便利商店非常方便，正前方又有很近距離的麥當勞個電影院。只是有些人員喜歡在廣場抽煙沒有管制，若能少些煙味及取締非常棒了。

Hello,
I am finding out bus routes from Chiayi station to Xi Ding station (Alishan).
I see some pages said that bus # 7322 have the last route in 14:00 from Chiayi station , but some pages said that it have the last route in 17:00.
So, when is it the last route?
