What a brilliant idea for your next work get together. We had our team meeting at OFEB Workspace then walked around to start our ale trail at Stalybridge Buffet Bar. It was so exciting boarding our first train to our next destination. Such good fun. Would highly recommend.

A fun day out with some lovely little watering holes. Bars can get busy as everyone arrives at a similar time. Pace yourself and have fun with friends.

Great day out really enjoyed it and especially the pie eyed pies that are on sale at Huddersfield station. There are loads of varieties and are delicious, just what you need to put a lining on your stomach. Make sure you get some for your journey they are a must .

Found a hidden treasure that you must visit. A sports bar not far from the train station. The different ales change all the time. From Trappist, Flemish, a banana ale. The list goes on and on and on. Man behind bar Sanjay and his Sister Anita. Will tantalise you not just with the ales. Selection of fine spirits as well. And a pound for many of these fine ale's and 3.40 for a double of these spirits. So go and enjoy. Place. Top End Bar Ashton under Lyne. Simon recommends this place highly.

Wow what an amazing city. Great for a city break, loads to do and see. Take a comfortable pair of shoes, as you will need them, very hilly and a vast spread out city. Cheap to eat and 🍷. Weather fab in May. Love it 👍👍

Pub crawl with a difference. Great selection of real ales, a bit of walking and an opportunity to see lots of folk as well oiled as oneself. Nice concept if rather less than healthy!

Started at Stalybridge station buffet, good range of beers all well kept, then went the usual route which has been well documented in other reviews (Marsden, Huddersfield, Dewsbury) finishing up black at the station buffet in Stalybridge. Well worth doing and a great day out.

I've been completing this route {(in reverse so stating in Batley (or Huddersfield for a shorter route)} for several years now. What started as an interesting way to see a great selection of traditional country pubs sampling some excellent beer has been somewhat ruined by the crowd the route now attracts. It now seems popular with large groups of young lads who aren't interested in beer or traditional pubs. 'stag parties' are the real curse of the trail, loutish and rowdy groups who essentially don't know how to drink or behave when they've had a drink.
However having said all of this, if you manage to find a Saturday when the ‘lads, lads, lads’ aren’t out and about then this is an amazing way to explore some of the best pubs and beer that Lancashire and Yorkshire have to offer. Even better do this on a week day and avoid the idiots.
If you’re traveling from Manchester then it really is advisable to do the long train journey to Batley and then do the trail westbound meaning that you don’t have to sit on a train all the way back to Manchester with 10 pints in you, plus if you want to continue when you get back into Piccadilly there’s loads of pubs nearby.
If the whole route seems a bit much I recommend starting at Huddersfield as this picks up some fantastic pubs and if you have a pint in each you’ll only have had 5 pints so you won’t be too worse for wear.

27 of us went on the trail and the pubs and beers were fantastic. The weather was possibly the worst I’ve seen in a long time in the area which made walking to some of the pubs very hard work.

We are planning the ale trail for this weekend, starting in Huddersfield. I have just looked on the train line for tickets that stop at Slaithwaite, Marsden etc on a return basis. I was surprised to see this was going to cost £27 return per person. Can anyone advise a cheaper option or is this the expected price? Thanks

We started at stalybridge to huddersfield return and for 2 people it was around 24.00
I am travelling from Manchester Piccadilly straight to Batley and working my way back. Any ideas what train ticket I will need?
