On this trip to Tokyo we decided to visit the Blue and White shop at its new location. Quite easy to find. It is a short walk from Azabujuban Metro Station (find a map which shows how to walk from the metro station to a small eliptical park on Daikokuzaka Street with a tiny statue of a girl at the far end of the park. The shop is in a building just beyond the park -- go towards a sign saying "Palette Plaza" on the far side of street, then keep going straight up from the statue end of the park and the Blue and White shop is on the left on the second floor at the top of a small escalator which is located at the far end of its building). The shop has a great selection of indigo-dyed fabric and items made from it, table linens, small fabric toys, women's clothing, and other items including ceramics, almost all in blue and white patterns. Lots of hand made items. The shop is not large, but there is plenty of opportunity to find unique, high-quality Japanese craft items for gifts. The lady working in the shop spoke a litte English and was delightful. It was a great experience. Afterwards this very nice area of Tokyo has lots of coffee shops and other food offerings for a snack or lunch.

My most memorable shopping experience during this trip was a visit to Blue and White. As other reviews have stated, the owner and staff are just really good people. Helpful without being pushy. Watching what you browse, they ask good questions and have great instincts on what may be of interest. Quality goods so you won’t find cheap knick-knacks here. You will find items that will be original and not mass produced.
I purchased two pouch/purses for my teenage nieces that were about 4000 Yen each. I was interested in some bags for my wife that were about 8000 Y. After talking about needing a gift for my wife, the owner had her staff model a handmade wool sweater-shawl. Not heavy, but perfect for some cooler nights in Hawaii. My wife will be surprised on Xmas morning by such an elegant and original sweater, which does make it priceless.
I got to meet the owner’s daughter who lives in Hawaii. We got to talking about the specialness of our island. By the time I left Blue and White, we all learned that we deeply share the Aloha spirit, even though Hawaii was 4,000 miles away. As I left, the owner chased me down the escalator to give me the name of woman who stitched sweater and to get a Aloha kiss goodbye.
Lastly, the Azabujuban Station is a cluster of retail stores worth seeking out. I found stores to buy omiyage...senbei, snacks, and manju. I even found a restaurant specializing in oden, Fukushimaya Oden.
I look forward to returning to Blue and White with my wife someday.!

藍染め中心の和風雑貨店になります。
日本藍染めや陶器等などがおしゃれな感じで並ぶ店内でしたが、現在はリニューアルオープンに向けて、閉店中で2017年4月からになります。

I tired to find this store a few trips to Toyko. It is off the beaten path and well worth the trip and exploring.
Just amazing high end crafts, clothing and things you did not even know you wanted or needed.

Beautiful items made in Japan, in the deep indigo blue color. Friendly and helpful staff. In fact we asked about an address for a restaurant we were going to have diner at that evening and Amy (I took to be an owner of the shop) walked the neighborhood asking at least 4-5 different people about the address until we found our destination. She also had lots of good information on museums. It is nice to find quality items but even better to find quality people.

I bought some lovely Tenugui towels. The store and the woman helping me were both lovely. The store feels so special and well cared for. I loved the way they wrapped up by towels. I always come here when Im in Azaba Juban.

The place you can find in Google Maps, but you may miss it since its really small. Their handcrafted products are really good, but a bit pricey. You'll find Japanese handkerchiefs called Tenugui, ceramics, etc.
If you are in the area, a nice place to visit.

It is what is says - a shop selling everything in blue and white! Quite small, but packed to the brim with a variety of objects, ranging from textiles such as clothing, blankets, rugs, to ceramics including plates, mugs, bowls and decorations. There's also a large selection of traditional japanese items such as tea caddies, chopstick rests etc.
A really great little find, would definitely recommend searching it out, even if it's just to have a look!

A friend was visiting Tokyo and I took her to this lovely little shop in an old area downtown. We were welcomed by an eloquent older Japanese lady, immaculately dressed who welcomed us to browse and chatted with us about areas of Tokyo. It was a memorable experience. My friend was delighted by the lovely of old - and new fabrics - all in blue and white. Years ago I bought the book Blue and White Japan by Amy Katoh who started the store (but I haven't yet seen her there.) The book prompted me to track down the shop. It's worth looking up too. The shop is not big but there are some lovely hand stitched garments in old indigo and kimono fabrics, unusual bags, paper products, pottery and other traditional Japanese crafts that I haven't seen else where. The surrounding area is fun to wander around too.
