‪This hike is fine until the last 50 feet up the butte, then very steep and dangerous. No place to put your hands and feet on the steep rock so you need to literally climb on your hands and knees to get up to the top. I was very surprised that the park recommends this as one of their top six. Nice views at the top, but I would never travel with children on this hike. We were two couples in our 60’s with two 20-year olds ahead of us who were equally surprised at the difficulty. Not for the feint of heart!‬

‪Those who couldn't find the graneries did not read the reviews here. Many people have explained where to find them. It is not obvious. The scramble across the rock face right near the top is not for the faint of heart. As a relatively fit 60 year old man, I did not find this hike to be too difficult. I some out of shape people turn around halfway. Also, as someone else said, don't do this trail with a baby! Probably not even a young child.‬

‪For those who want to get off the beaten path and get a sense of The awe of Canyonlands, this hike is perfect. At around 2-3 miles round trip, it is not too long,
And only a short duration from the Mesa Arch. There was only one other couple on the trail.

It is a moderate hike - some rock scrambles and inclines.

Views were amazing - the ancient granaries, and sights of the canyons on the top of the butte (very windy).

This hike should be on your list for Canyonlands‬

‪This was an excellent hike that ended up better than I expected. I would definitely recommend this hike if you are looking for a trail that can easily be done in a few hours, is easy to get to, yet provides a challenge with awesome panoramic views. We did the trail in the late morning and it was not crowded at all. The first half of the trail is mostly flat and straight forward. You'll come to a fork; make sure you follow the sign left to check out the granary before looping back to that point to go the other way to Aztec Butte. The climb up Aztec Butte is where the challenge begins. The distance is relatively short, but the incline and required scrambling is what makes it difficult but fun. Others that left the average/poor reviews were because they weren't prepared or bit off more than they could chew. Kids can probably handle it, if they are mature and well-supervised. All in all this trail is worth it, especially if you're short on time and want a challenge without the crowds.‬

‪What a wonderful hike to both the butte top and the granaries. It's easy and flat to the fork, and starts climbing across the rock thereafter. Exercise caution as it may be slippery going up the butte.‬

‪One of the nicer trails to enjoy and take in the views of Canyonlands. Not too long but offers a great perspective.‬

‪Fun tail with some scrambling at the top to access an amazing view! The trail took about an hour and a half with time spent at the top as well as the granary. ‬

‪This is, in my opinion, the steepest hike in the park. If you have a fear of heights (or falling), this is not for you. Rock scrambling and seat of the pants. I'd suggest some sturdy hiking pants. The younger and more agile you are, the better LOL. Don't even try a baby carrier on this trail. One man tried and decided,( loosely quoting Shakespeare), that "Discretion is the better part of valor". Gorgious views from the top. The blue skies and grand vistas are spectacular.‬

‪There is two parts to this hike. We didn’t make it to the top of the butte. My daughter was a little scared of the heights. However we were able to do the granary with zero issues. ‬

‪We really enjoyed this hike. In fact, out of all the hikes we did in Arches and Canyonlands, this was near the top. The trail is not very populated, so we practically had the entire thing to ourselves in the middle of June, peak tourist season. The loop is about 3 miles roundtrip. You have to climb up a slickrock surface on the way up, but it's not overly steep and it's well marked, so very doable. You should wear some solid shoes, not very suitable for sandals. Once you get to the top of the butte, you will have a beautiful 360 view of the region. There is a granary up there. On the way to or from the butte, there is a side trail that leads to two more small granaries. You have to once again scale some slickrock; the granaries are tucked under an overhang so you have to scramble down to see them. Well worth the effort! Peaceful and quiet.‬
