As with everywhere in the smokies, it was a great drive. We saw turkeys and a bald eagle along the drive. Worth taking the time to visit.

Help the driver stay alert for all the twists and turns. Use the pull-offs to pause and soak in the scenery. Good places to stop are Metcalf Falls (unmarked) and The Sinks (also unmarked). Many people are heading for Laurel Falls or for Cades Cove, both of which are almost always crowded. I usually bypass the popular areas and head for Tremont, which is turns off just past Townsend.

The entire winding length of Little River Road is one filled with beauty and memory making opportunities. The boulder strewn river running alongside much of the road sounds soothing and offers endless opportunities for picnics, photos and fun filled memories.

This is a beautiful drive and easy to reach. The drive follows the river with several cascades along the way. It's winding roads surrounded by dense forest. Not a lot of stops along the way. Just a beautiful road trip in nature.

This was a lovely drive back to Townsend from Gatlinburg. However, please keep your eyes on the road. For a passenger, it's great but so my drivers were over the lines as we wound around the twisty roads. I would not take this drive in the rain or dark if I could avoid it.

Little River Road is a road that stretches between Sugarland Visitor Center (Gatlinburg just inside the GSMNP) and Townsend. It is a nice scenic drive. There are no gas stations, restaurants, etc. along this scenic drive, so plan accordingly. You will find that you also have NO cell phone service. You will be completely at one with nature here. The road travels all along the river for most of the stretch of the roadway. There are many scenic pull offs in addition to natural attractions such as Laurel Falls, Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area and the Sinks. We stopped at both the Sinks and Laurel Falls this summer (see separate reviews).
Overall, we enjoy traveling Little River Rd. It is a nice scenic drive where you can just relax, take in nature and enjoy the view. Occasionally, you will see some wildlife along the way such as wild turkey.

Little River road is must stop while in the Smoky Mountains. The scenic drive takes you to Cade’s Cove and it is beautiful anytime of the year. From trees to streams, this drive should be on everyone’s bucket list. Please remember to use the pull offs to allow faster drivers to pass. Don’t miss this drive!

Beautiful drive! The drive along the river was absolutely beautiful, it had just stormed earlier in the morning and we got there about 2:00. The river was high & rushing! Great spots to pull off to the side & take pictures. It dead ends into Cades Cove. We went on a weekday so it wasn't too busy, just need to relax & enjoy the drive, there were definitely areas where it would slow down & back up a little.

What beauty- Nature at it's best!
The drive is so beautiful, it takes some time even during the weekdays but just relax and enjoy what nature has to offer. Pull over in one of the many pull-offs to stretch your legs and take in a new sight. We saw many anglers in the water the warm February day that we traveled through. You could see snow on the boulders in spots with the water flowing around them. Very pretty.
Fill up your tank and get going! Life's short and tomorrow is not promised to us, enjoy TODAY!

There is great fishing for brown, rainbow, and brook trout in the Little River all along this road. The only reason I do not give it four stars is that it is crowded. You will be fly fishing, and some kid will jump in your fishing hole.

Can you start in Townsend or do you need to start the drive in Gatlinburg?

Yes you can start at Townsend. Go to the Little River Road reviews and find the map. You can click on the map and see the driving directions showing where the Little River Road runs. It is an easy drive and nice to follow the river. Hope this helps...

how can I edit my review. I meant to fill on five circles on my review but I only filled in one. I meant to go back to the rating and then forgot. Little River Road is a definite "5"

Are there multiple spots that someone can pull off and fish with enough room to accommodate a trailer. A friend and i will be coming through and would love to drive through the road and fish for a day, but didnt know how much room the pull offs will have. Please advise, thanks

Some areas are wide enough for a p/up and trailer/camper. But not all are large enough of course.

how do you find it in gatlinburg

Sugar Land, تكساس6,468 مساهمة
This is a really old question but Little River Road is a right turn off of Hwy 441S/Newfound Gap Road. It is about 2 miles from the Gatlinburg entrance. It runs in front of the Sugarland Visitor Center. Google Maps refers to it as Fighting Creek Gap Road.
Little River Road becomes Laurel Creek Road at the Townsend Wye.
Laurel Creek Road/Little River Road goes to Cades Cove.
I answered this because a lot of people use Google Maps and it is good to know the other names of these roads to end any confusion they may have.
