‪This trail was not very well marked and difficult to find but made it a more peaceful hike since there weren’t as many people. The hike itself was quite strenuous. Though it was only 2 miles you are climbing over rocks or tree roots almost the entire way. But the falls were powerful and beautiful and well worth the hike!‬

‪Turn into the Institute at Tremont for the trail head‬
العائلة • أغسطس 2021
‪Hard trail for all of us, steep inclines and water on trail in places. Kids are 6&9 and were able to do it with some breaks (which were needed by the adults as well). Lots of yellow jackets around, one of us got stung. But man is it worth it at the end and you see the falls. Then you climb up next to the falls and touch them and cool off in the pool and it’s even MORE WORTH IT‬

‪Nice Moderate Hike‬
العائلة • يوليو 2021
‪This trail is a great little trail off of Tremont Road. The trail is about 1.3mi starting from the parking lot at the Tremont Visitor Center (which is closed due and may open in August). Anyhow, your adventure starts with a teaser of steps and easily traversed terrain and then the earth throws a few steep areas with a narrow path and some fun obstacles to overcome (nothing big, trees, tree roots, Boulders, etc). Just when you start to hear rushing water, you still have a ways to go. About 3/4 of the way there the trail is tame and starts to head down slowly. At the end, you will come to three levels of pools at the bottom of the falls. A well worth trip where one can wade in the deeper waters, or sit under the falls and have them beat down on you.

While at the falls, there were a few people in the morning. Around 11:30, as we were heading back, there were many people on the trails heading in and when back at the lot, the lot was full. So our take was, head out early.

If I had to guess, it took about 45min hike with some stops for photos along the way.‬

‪Take the trail or cross the stream‬
سبتمبر 2020
‪One of the nicer little waterfalls on the Tennessee side of the mountains. It can be reached by utilizing the trailhead at the Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont for a nice walk through the woods or take the gravel road that takes you to the Middle Prong trailhead and cross the stream for a rock hop or three and a 100 yd scramble and you will be there. You will get wet crossing the stream and you will risk falling in due to the slick rocks but I always go in the middle of summer and plan on getting wet under the falls anyway. Aproximately one mile up the gravel road you will see a stream flowing down from the bank and into the middle prong. That is where you cross. Once across the stream, you can catch a glimpse of Spruce Flats Falls just a matter of yards away. Of course I am describing a summertime trip but the falls are beautiful year round.‬

‪A great hike!‬
ديسمبر 2020
‪This is a great trail! We first drove to the Middle Prong Trailhead, and hiked the Middle Prong to Lynn Camp Falls, then drove back to the Institute for the Spruce Flats Falls trail.
The trailhead for Spruce Flats Falls is at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont.
The rocky and rooted trail leads to a beautiful waterfall. The trail is narrow and travels around the edge of the mountain. The elevation gain is 413 ft, but you have to remember this is over a distance of just under a mile. The total distance, round trip is 1.8 miles. We saw families with young kids on the trail and they were managing just fine.
You can cross to the other side of the stream, but be careful.
A nice place for a pic nic.
We did this trail after the Middle Prong to Lynn Camp Falls trail. A great combination.‬

‪Great hike!‬

‪Fun, mostly easy hike that is pretty good for families, and younger kids can probably handle fine. Beautiful waterfall at the top and gorgeous views along the way.‬

‪less traveled falls hike‬
العائلة • نوفمبر 2020
‪This falls hike was nowhere near as busy as most. I underestimated how challenging it would be. Lots of roots and rocks and narrow in areas, when it comes to passing other hikers. The falls were really pretty! Our 9-year-old was able to do this hike with us but the descent was pretty slow going. ‬

‪Off the beaten path..‬
أكتوبر 2020
‪This trail is good to do if you want to avoid the crowds. Right now because of Covid, the Tremont Institute is closed and this trail runs behind that area. The parking lot is closed but across the street is a parking area that can be used (there is a sign for a logging audio tour). Right now they have some temporary sign to the falls mixed with some older signs and the entrance to the trail starts behind a building. It is uphill for a good portion and uneven in parts especially maneuvering around tree roots. As you head toward the falls there is a small bridge made from a large tree. The falls are beautiful as they are tucked away in a valley. You can climb down some rocks to get closer. ‬

‪Challenging hike for 60+‬
زوجان • أكتوبر 2020
‪I read the reviews for Spruce Flat Falls before going. They rang true for being lesser known falls. We saw only two groups going and two coming back. The Institute is closed for Covid but they have clear signs made to get you on the right path. Reviews and the Institute signage said 2 miles round trip but it’s a challenging two miles - but maybe not as tough compared to some mountain hikes. Reviewers said easy to moderate. I’d have said moderate to difficult. One family with kids turned back. My husband got 3/4 way there but had to quit when his hiking boot fell apart. The trail is very, very rocky with tons of big roots. Sometimes it helps on footing - other times seems like a good sprain waiting to happen. The falls are very pretty. Only two sets of people there when I arrived. The last section is the most challenging and remember what goes down must come up! My husband even without the shoe snafu would not have made it. Younger people in their 20s that blew by us were not challenged I’m sure. We did encounter a snake on the way back but I was able to gently convince him to move off the trail with some prodding. ‬

‪Great hike‬
العائلة • يوليو 2020
‪This was not a difficult or long hike, but it was quite enjoyable. It is a bit off of the beaten path, so it wasn’t as crowded as some other areas. Follow the signs for the Tremont Institute. When we visited, the small parking area near the institute was closed off, but there was a parking area to the right just before you’d make a left turn to go to the institute. Once we went past the institute gate, there were traffic cones with signs pointing in the direction of the hike. The falls were very pretty. There were plenty of rocks to sit on to enjoy the view of the falls. ‬
