This place is pristine and quiet. Loved the tranquility. Walked around most of the lake. Just one canoe on the lake because it was cool out.

Not fair to rate completely - but does have gasoline. All the NPS guides say that there are no gas stations in the park and technically that is true. Hume Lake is carved out of the park and there is a gas station, so if you plan accordingly, and know the hours of the station, you can get gas during your visit to Kings Sequoia.

Visiting Hume Lake was heaven on earth. WOW! Words can't fully describe. Do yourself a favor and pay for the "toll road" option on maps and gain access to all National Parks for seven days. The drive in from I-80E is majestic and one of the most beautiful drives right through the Sequoia National Forest and it is truly breathtaking with the giant trees and steep serene views through the canyon.
Parking was full at Sandy Cove so we just parked off the street and walked in about ten minutes. Although it was crowded we had plenty of access to spread blankets and jump in the lake. The dogs are welcome and they had a blast. While we were swimming we sighted a bald eagle soaring above and kept circling overhead until he pulled out his talons and dove towards the water...to emerge with a successful catch. It's like what you see in the movies and it was right before our eyes.
The water is slightly cool but so welcome during these high heat days.
Honestly cannot recommend Hume Lake enough and cannot wait to go back.

The Hume Lake Trail is my favorite. Beautiful flowers and the nature that greets you is breathtaking. We camped at the campgrounds & it was really nice. Clean bathrooms well maintained campgrounds. At night the stars were so bright and the kids singing at the nearby camp was a joy. Kids having fun laughing and singing such a respite from lockdown COVID days. They got quiet at 10 so it wasn’t too much. My kids enjoyed fishing and we also had a fun time at Sandy Cove. Summer camp kids came out like a swarm but were respectful of our space and then they were gone onto the next thing they do. Nice day for my family. Lake fun, camp fun, and of course shopped for essentials at the store there. Going back soon. Highly recommend.

You can stop by Hume lake on your way to Cedar Grove. We saw this lake from the Panoramic Point and stopped here for the gas and lunch. There is also a Christian camp facility.
The gas price wasn't ridiculously expensive despite its remote location.
We had only one day to explore the Kings Canyon. So, we spent half day in the Cedar Grove area (east end of Hwy 180) and took a lunch break (and fill the tank) at the lake. Then, spent another half day in the Grant Grove area.

Lake Hume campground was amazing - 1st time here. Outside of our own private campground, when going for hikes and bike rides, 99% of people wore masks, most everyone was respectful of the social distancing requirements, & most everyone respected the quiet hours of 10pm to 6am. It is a beautiful spot. Drinking water is at every site. Toilets are close and cleaned every day. The lake is gorgeous and lovely to swim in. Bring your own water toys though - floaties, paddle boards, surfboards, kayaks etc. AVOID the Christian camp. It is open to the public but it is crowded, noisy and to our complete surprise, NO ONE wore masks. NO ONE was social distancing. We were shocked. And when we first walked through, and were wearing masks, they looked at us like we were from another planet. Even our teens noticed! Don't be taken in by the convenience of the general store (they wore masks inside the store though) as the prices are very inflated. We did try the paddle boats - at $20/hour - they only rent by the hour (of course) - and it was our 1st time on a board - yet they didn't give any help or instruction - a kind stranger gave us guidance - so it was not a successful or pleasant experience. The size of the board mattered, we discovered, and when I spoke to them after, all they offered was an 'I'm sorry.' It was run by teens who were all very preoccupied with each other and with having a good time instead of giving good customer service. No refund or even an offer of at least another hour - $80.00 wasted. Very, very disappointing. It's unfortunate that to walk/bike around the whole lake you have to go through the Christian camp, but that's the way it is. Sooo, bring your own water toys - and don't give them any of your hard earned money! And thank you to everyone who wore their masks!

We stopped by the Sandy Cove area of Hume Lake after visiting Grant Grove. We arrived about 11am and most parking was already taken. We found street parking and walked down to the beach.
The lake and surroundings are beautiful but the beach area is fairly small and filled up quick. That being said, we still found a little shady spot and the kids played in the water. It seemed clean and there were ducks swimming around. Lots of kayaks, sail boats, floats, stand up paddle boards. I think this would be the best way to enjoy the lake and get away from some of the beach crowds.
There are restrooms near the main parking area for Sandy Cove. There is also a green space closer to the main Hume area but parts of it seemed to be currently roped off. I also know the Christian camp that typically causes more traffic in the area is currently closed from COVID. I think this area is worth a couple hour detour to enjoy the beach or hike around the lake.

Really nice drive down to the lake and beautiful views. Not much to do or other stuff to see, but still worth the visit.

We thought we could get something to eat but on arrival it was closed. Seems more of a Christian Summer Camp town than tourist destination. Lovely and tranquil though and scenery nice, but check opening times to pick the day you visit.

We did the loop hike around the lake. On the way to the trail head we went past the retreat center. It was weird seeing so many people after not really seeing anybody the whole day.
The trail around the lake is pretty easy, and you do see some spectacular sites.

Anyone have contact information for owners of cabins on the federal side of Hume lake? We love that area and want to rent one of those cabins vs the Christian camp rentals. So we can be closer to the lake. We have in the past but lost the contact info.

Are there any good hikes in the area besides the one around the lake? I am looking for some mountain hikes.
Thanks, D

There are some OHV trails to the Northeast side of the lake overlooking Kings canyon but it is a several mile walk to see anything significant. Some good hikes if you don't mind driving include big baldy trail heads and buckrock lookout (perched above the lake)

I will be taking a little weekend getaway with my boyfriend here in a couple of weeks. We will be staying in tents which is no biggie but I had a few questions that maybe someone could help me out with? Food? I read something about a storage space, would it be better to just bring dry food items and buy actual meals at the camp?? Or does the storage space include a refridgerator?

The storage space includes a metal lock box that is large enough for up to 3 standard size iced chests. No power, refrigerator or shower facilities. Toilets and water spigots are all that you will find.
