‪As the university person, acting as our guide told us - that Rabindra Bhavan and others like it were used as the locations when the great poet composed his various creations.

This bhavan is one of the large ones, with the architecture and construction that reflected the culture at that time. The walls were thick at places, some of the rooms were without windows or they had very small windows.

A good experience to see all the other such bhavans in the same compound.‬

‪If you have a car park it at a location around 150 m away for Rs100. The ticket to Rabindra Bhavan costs Rs50 and this provides entry to the museum and the so-called Uttarayan complex. The museum building is simple but aesthetically pleasing. Would suggest that you avoid weekends as the crowds on the Saturday we visited was overwhelming. You have to take off your shoes to enter the museum. The museum is located in the first floor. It is a small hall, well maintained and full of artefacts from Tagore’s life including the replica of the Nobel prize( the original was stolen!). Because of the crowd could not see anything peacefully. Ground stairs houses a gallery which is again very well kept. The fact that the place is air-conditioned is a saving grace. There is a sales counter which we did not visit.Wish the authorities looks at crowd management objectively . For example entry to the museum may be restricted to say 50 maximum at a time with a time limit. ‬

‪The experience of visiting Rabindra Bhavan is quite different compared to visiting any other museum. It’s due to the range of emotions that one feels inside the museum. Reverence for his persona, Pride about the great Indian Nobel Laureate , Amazement about his genius.

Rabindra Bhavan was his residence when Rabindranath lived in Shantiniketan. It has been converted into a museum.

There are many things about the museum that will stay with you in memory. Nobel committee’s speech at the time of the award ceremony, Rabindranath’s acceptance speech, the Nobel award citation, pictures of other great personalities who became his admirers, friends.

The story about how Gitanjali was first published and how it took the world by storm. How he first heard the news of his receiving the award.

Gitanjali is a compilation of 157 poems. 68 of them were songs. He was a rare person whose poetry had a music in it..

The museum shows many pictures and some of the memorabilia. It is a sheer joy and an exciting experience to have visited the museum. It should be #1 place to visit while in Shantiniketan..‬
