‪You need to book this visit / tour but it is so worth while. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. Apart from the house being very interesting with lots of ordinal works of William Morris the garden is very pretty. ‬

‪Great Tour, guide was very knowledgeable , providing history, context and points of interest. Not may items left within the house, but what is there is interesting with context. Gardens are beautiful.‬

‪Not enough original furniture. The guides are pretty good though as is the garden. We are Art Fund pass holders so we got in free because of this but it's expensive if you're not a National Trust member it's a bit of a rip off.

There's a nice second hand bookshop there too, ditto a cafe.‬

‪The guide's name was Ann and she was very good. If we had not had her bringing the place to life, we probably would not have enjoyed it. She told us the history of William Morris and his family and friends. I knew a little bit about the Arts and Crafts movement but I learnt a lot whilst I was there. Really enjoyed our trip. Thank you Ann‬

‪Small but perfectly formed , looked after and staffed by really caring people many of whom if not all must be volunteers . The garden is just lovely . Impressed most of all by the tiny cafe which has restored my faith in national trust catering . Delicious and truly homemade simple food produced and served by talented and enthusiastic individuals . such a rare thing to find these days as the Trust turns so many of it’s cafes into identikit and soulless self service venues. This little cafe truly felt part of its warm and well loved surroundings.‬

‪William Morris lived here for five years, and he, with his architect friend designed this neo-Gothic house to suit the tastes of the Arts and Crafts and Pre-Raphaelite movements. An enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide took us round, and there were interesting things to see - uncovered wall paintings, a couple of items of built-in furniture, and the house itself. But the house is pretty well unfurnished, and the presence of just a few of Morris-designed chairs suggested how much more could be done to flesh out the bare bones of the house.
It's also the case that the walk form the Danson Park car park to the house, advertised as 10-15 minutes, is rather more for those less mobile than they used to be!
But it is worth a visit if one is interested in the Arts and Crafts movement.‬

‪Firstly I loved the house. I studied Morris at University so I was really looking forward to my visit. The tour was ok but I have to say the guide was a little uninspiring. However my main issue was the cafe and the total lack of any customer service skills. There was an issue with the tea-a couple in the cafe had sent theirs back as it tasted of salt and then so did ours. The lady suggested it was maybe the dishwasher salt so I assumed she was going to wash the cups and try again. When ours and the other couple’s second drinks came they still tasted of salt. When I asked her if she’d cleaned the cups she just said she used other cups from the same shelf. There was no attempt to try and work out what the problem was!!! I got offered coffee (which I don’t drink) but that doesn’t help if the problem was the cups. Then when we asked for a refund another member of staff never once asked us about the issue or looked me in the eye or offered an apology. He could not work the till so it look a long time to get a refund. Only a 3rd member of staff could work the till and offered an apology. I have wanted to go to the Red House for a long time and this completely spoilt my visit.‬

‪Got my train from London Bridge to BexleyHeath , Then waked 12 mins approx to Red House ..
As i entered the street it`s a bit strange as one side of the road is present modern bungalows and on the other is Red House , I was met by three lovely ladies at the reception who were so kind and very nice .
The house itself is a lovely , nothing fancy but the person who made it was William Morris , Poet & Founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement . National Trust , £8:40 per adult to get in (Oct 2019 prices) .
Morris lived with his wife Janey for 5 yrs in 1860 , You will see how he experimented with patterns & colours & designs in each room and see how the Trust has brilliantly peeled back years of layers to see some original drawing & paintings on the walls .
I had a guided tour with a Great tour guide called Tony which is free ,He brought the house alive as he told Morris story of the years he was at Red House , He was so knowledgeable, the tour lasted approx 45 mins and they run from 11am every half a hour until 1 pm After 1 pm you can then go round on your own if you wish .Go on them cos they will tell you a lot about the house & Morris and the architect Phillip Webb , Also his wife Janey handy work and Burne Jones stained Glass windows . In each room not much furniture , What furniture that is there is original, but as i was told this house is still a On Going project .
Went to have a cuppa and a slice of coffee cake in the cafe , The two staff ladies were great and so kind , Toilets are situated close to reception ..
In the house next to the exit is a small exhibition room with artifacts and a time line about Morris and Red House ..The garden surrounding the property was well kept and look out for a apple tree that was planted back in 1860 , Sleightly worn but still there .
A lovely day out and well worth see this little bit of history ..‬
