‪We spent a very pleasant two and half hours doing this circular walk - we were staying at the bottom of the alma steps in Kingswear so started there. Took that coastal path to Brownstone Battery . Had a chat with the coastguards at Froward Point then headed back via the Daymark to Kingswear. Lots of ascents and descents , steps , rocks and different flora and fauna. It was quite challenging in places but throughly enjoyable .‬

‪Although under 5 miles, the route covers some very steep descents, and therefore steep ascents. Leaving Kingswear from the Lower Ferry, you are immediately faced with a long hill that follows the road upwards. Stopping to admire the views is a good excuse to get your breath back, before pushing on past the homes and holiday homes of millionaires and even billionaires perhaps.
Steps down through woods are treacherous in poor weather, but a side path at the bottom leads to a secluded cove.
Having got to the bottom there is a fearsome (for someone in my condition) ascent that seems interminable. From time to time the trees clear and you are rewarded with some of the best views in England.
On reaching the Coastguard station at Inner Froward Point you see a wide vista across the sea, and then the path joins the road, which rises steeply to The Daymark.
The Daymark is an elegant structure and well worth a visit in its own right. Sea-mist and low cloud often sweep across this exposed clifftop even in summer, so be prepared. The hedgerows here are full of blackberries, and picking these ripe, with the salty tang of the sea still on them is fabulous.
The path then turns back towards Kingswear, and is well signposted.
There is a tricky descent over the smooth and slimy rocks of a winterbourne, which even after a dry summer had water trickling down.
The climb up the last hill is long and not too steep, so is a welcome relief after the steeper paths.
There is a stretch of asphalt road with a downward gradient. Under some trees, it gets and stays damp, and is quite slick. I came unstuck here and picked up a magnificent graze down one arm as well as bruises. Take it steady.
The drop down into Kingswear to the ferry again offers some great views of Dartmouth, mainly the area around South Town, Warfleet and the Castle.‬

‪We did this on a hot day so the walk up was challenging but well worth it to see all the history and absorb the views‬

‪We parked in Brownstone National Trust car park (£2 suggested parking fee in an honesty box) to walk to the Daymark after we heard about it while staying in Kingswear on holiday. It's a nice country walk. From the car park to the Daymark is about 0.5 miles. Sadly, due to crop damage but previous visitors, the Daymark was shut to go and see. Which was a shame because we'd have loved to see it up close. There's an entry gate and pathway off the main path on the left when it is open, so you don't have to work out how to get to it.

We then continued on to Froward Point on the coastal path to see Brownstone Battery (another 0.5 miles). The views across the sea are stunning and there's a lookout point belonging to National Coastwatch where there are staff watching the sea. There are old buildings used during the war (but not much information on them), and it's a great place to look out to sea. See my photos.

From this path you can also walk to Brixham (about 9 miles) or back to Kingswear (2 miles) but we didn't do that.

All in all it's probably a 45-50min roundtrip walk from the car park. It's quite up hill on the way back from the coastal point, but well worth it.‬

‪As we were in the area and looking for a quick stroll we went to the Daymark and back.
Nice easy little walk and to see the unusual landmark with beautiful views. It's a quaint but somehow mesmerising tower in a fantastic location and we will return to do more of the walk when we have the time.‬

‪I’m not exactly unfit but this walk definitely requires a level of fitness as it’s mostly steep inclines and lots of steps! A mix of terrain with woods and sea views - sturdy walking shoes highly recommended. Took us around 2.5 hours to do the 5 miles. Although I found this walk challenging, I’m glad I did it although can’t say the same about my legs which are still suffering some 3 days later! ‬

‪It’s well worth getting the ferry across to Kingswear. Turn left and 200 yards on the right is a cafe- well worth the visit and a further 200 yards on the left is the road down to the marina . Turn right off the ferry and a cafe is in front of you. OR follow the coastal path signs for a spectacular view across the river and on to the English Channel.‬

‪Schitterende wandeling langs de oost-oever van de dart River. Af te toe rijdt de stoomtrein voorbij en is het idyllisch plaatje compleet. Een wandelkaart meenemen is handig. De bewegwijzering is gebrekkig.‬

‪Get your walking boots on and stride out from Kingswear along the south west coast path towards Brixham. Some tarmac roads to start but follow the path and you soon go up and down through some slightly more challenging terrain, through wooded areas, beside fields and along rocky grassy paths overlooking the sea, with spectacular views. We walked along as far as Coleton Fishacre (National Trust property) for a break and then walked back the road way (a lot less demanding!) Very good half day's walk. You may even be lucky and see seals or dolphins (although we didn't, sadly). Still lovely, all the same! Probably about 5-6 miles round trip but feels more because of all the up and downs!‬
