‪Came here as part of a taxi tour. Thought provoking and educational. About 30 minutes is as much time as you need here.‬

‪My wife and I visited Betty's Hope as part of our island tour. This was one of the largest sugar plantations on the island originally founded in the mid 17th century being named after an island governor's wife who inherited the plantation upon the passing of her husband. Entrance is via a small donation and the site consists of an interesting visitor centre which includes a model of how the plantation was originally set up. In the grounds the site of the owners Great House is just a ruined outline on the ground now but there is more to see with the Manager's house ruin and the two mill houses, one of which has been restored to it's former glory. The staff are friendly and enjoy providing information to visitors. Worth a visit.‬

‪Apparently a former sugarcane plantation, Betty’s Hope once excelled in the 17th century and now stands as a memorial to British colonization of the island. The mill has been restored to its former glory and the cotton house store is now a Visitor’s Centre that provides a fascinating insight into Antiguan history. My wife and I took in a visit as part of an island tour and really enjoyed the short stop off‬

‪This old sugar mill has been loving restored, and although small provides a valuable and interesting insight into the sugar industry and slave trade that built the island into a major sugar producing area in the 17 -1800’s‬

‪We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Betty's Hope. We learned a great deal about the history of sugar production in Antigua. The staff were friendly, there is a restroom and the admission fee is minimal. If you are a history buff and enjoy museums, this one is a must.‬

‪Betty's Hope is a must see when in Antigua and a place to reflect on the horrors of slavery and hope that history is never repeated. While many of the sugar estate's buildings are in ruins the 2 mills stand in all their glory having been restored. On a clear day they look majestic.

Visiting Betty's Hope was a bit of a challenge as it seemed only to be open when private tours were visiting. Thankfully we were able to get in as the gates were left open but had to leave when they did.‬

‪We really enjoyed learning about the history of the Betty's Hope. It painted a very accurate picture of what the slaves enduring when the sugar mill was active.‬
